Washington December 17. Soft coal miners earned an average 61 a work week of 41.4 hours in September. Iron and steel plants paid 40.81 for 39.7 hours. Auto industry workers averaged 53.12 for 38.7 hours. Hourly rates were 1.48 for soft coal, 1.44 for steel, and 1.37 for autos. Over 35 hours qualifies for overtime for soft coal miners.
