Fred Maine a 70 year old Nashua farmer died while talking with friends at a farm sale. His wife survives him. In Iowa City a greeting for the judge was recorded with a $1 bill as Beverly Hunter of Rockford a University of Iowa co ed sent payment of an overtime parking fine to police court.

Jackson Day Dinner tickets sell fast in Iowa

About 145 Iowans bought tickets for the $25-a-plate Jackson Day dinner set for January 8. Party leaders said ticket sales are substantially higher than last year. Secretary of Agriculture Wallace will speak.

Goat farmer arrested after rifle shots at boys near farm

WwW. M Bouquette, a goat farmer near the north city limits, was arrested by Deputy Sheriffs Harmon and Strouthers on a charge of assault with intent to inflict great bodily injury. The arrest stems from four boys hunting near Bouquettes place who reported rifle shots. He claims trespassers shot several of his goats.

Anaphylactic Shock Severs Bride-To-Be in Des Moines Office

Miss Mary Florine Welsh, 27, bride to be, died at Dr. P L Park's office in Des Moines after a minor procedure. Her father, city detective George Welsh, said she convulsed and lost consciousness shortly after a routine anesthetic, despite being in good health aside from a minor ailment.

Co ed Dorm Lock-In Solves College Theft Case

At Morningside College 60 female students locked themselves in the women’s dorm for 20 hours to locate a missing $25. Dorothy Long ofSac City reported the loss. a student confessed to stealing the money and it was restored. The president announced the confession after self-imposed ballot secrecy failed to reveal the thief.

Christmas Seal Display At Washington State Bank

A long running Christmas seals exhibit chronicles the period from 1911 to today collected by Mrs. C. C. Wilson. Early on Red Cross and tuberculosis workers used the same cross, later replaced by a new cross on the seals. The display notes annual design changes and the evolving stamp imagery.

McCrabb Buys Farm on Security Administration Plan

Washington County Farm Security administration announces purchase of the A. M. Corcoran farm three miles west and one mile north of West Chester. The 100 acre property costs 11500 dollars and will be repaid over 40 years at 3 percent interest under fixed or variable plans. Inquest Reveals Crossing Collision Fatal to Mr Marr

Mrs W T Marr of Ainsworth remained in critical condition after a train struck the car she drove at a railway crossing in Ainsworth. Her husband W T Marr, 82, died at the scene. An inquest found the death accidental. witnesses from Eldon testified about engine No 974 and crossing signals. Funeral plans were postponed pending Mrs Marr’s recovery.

Don Radda won first in the most entries class and first in the longest ear category at the WHO corn contest. He tied for third in the heaviest ear division as announced by a Des Moines radio station today.

Burglar Foiled at Crone Grocery by Window Crash

A would be burglar tried to enter Crone grocery on the square’s north side about 1 45 this morning but a broken window noise drove him away. Delbert Bailey, the night watchman, heard the crash and rushed to the scene but the intruder had fled and was gone.
