A retired Iowan farmer, J. P. Anderson, mailed a $100 bill to former President Hoover for use in the Finnish relief fund. He cited kinship with Finns due to Danish ancestry, reflecting a Scandinavian connection.
Iowa's 30 day quail season ends today across 18 southern counties. The State Conservation Commission reminds hunters that the period has produced good hunting with reports of successful outings and steady activity from officials.
Mayor Mark Conkling designates Sunday as Finland Day urging Des Moines residents to donate to the Finnish relic movement led by Herbert Hoover. The proclamation laments the invasion of a sister republic and calls for unity in support of Finland's peace and progress.

Cedar Rapids officials and attorneys presented to the city council a lower gas rate proposal claiming about $12 000 annual savings for consumers. Virgil Case alleged the company pays 16 cents per thousand cubic feet and sells at 1 90. the gas company's auditor says actual costs range 25 to 35 cents per thousand.

A head on crash west of Wilton, Muscatine County Iowa left Marvin Nix 35 of Des Moines and W KR McBee 50 Mason City hotel owner dead. Five others including Ray Ingham Cedar Rapids his wife son nephew and Esther Smith injured all expected to recover. Nix drove the car instantly killed McBee died later at Muscatine hospital.
About 6000 people attend the dedication of Washington’s new armory for Troop F, 113th Cavalry with Governor George A. Wilson delivering the address. The $38,000 modern plant replaces an old frame barn and features a large riding hall, flag backdrop, and a tour by troopers. Local officials and National Guard officers from eastern Iowa, including Adjutant General Charles H. Grahl and Brigadier General Ray Venter, attend the ceremony.
Adjutant General Charles H. Grahl praised Washington's new armory calling it the finest setup in the state. He noted it has every needed feature with no waste space and pleasant exterior and interior. He added larger Iowa armories spend more but serve communities no better. Another Iowa National Guard officer called it neat and adequate with no frills.
Governor Wilson asserts the armory dedication serves the community. He calls for teamwork cooperation and education to uphold human freedom and American liberty as the city and nation face a shared responsibility for humanity.
The dedication of the building featured Governor Wilson speaking and a prayer by Rev. William M. Nichol of the United Presbyterian church, urging the armory to be a place of peace. The 118th Cavalry band from Oskaloosa played The Star Spangled Banner and performed a half hour concert under Leo R. Brissey, with many in attendance standing at attention.
United Press reports a phase in the Finland war where Russian manpower begins to overwhelm Finnish marksmanship and terrain familiarity. Despite a stalemate on the Karelian isthmus after eight days, Soviet mechanized forces push along the central and northern fronts toward Salmijärvi area and threaten to split Finland toward the Bothnia gulf.
Ainsworth, Dec 15. W. T. Marr, over 80, was instantly killed when a Rock Island engine struck his car at the west crossing. His wife, who was driving, was seriously hurt and not expected to survive.
By today close, over 1000 license plates for Washington county autos in 1940 will be issued at the county treasurer’s office. Total since December 1 reached 947 yesterday, up from 718 a year ago. Trucks licensed number 117, vs 84 last year. In 14 days of December 44 new cars were licensed. if December matches last year, 34 more must register before year end.
