Ray refuses to back farmers strike amid talks with Iowa governor
In Des Moines UPI report Gov. Robert D. Ray met for 75 minutes with farm leaders who urged action on a nationwide strike. Ray questioned the parity demand, urged opening new markets, and warned farmers about long term solutions while organizers said time is running out. Farmers blamed the Carter administration for delays and said they face financial ruin if conditions do not improve next year.
