Public hearing on Washington County transport funds planned

The Washington County Community Action Organization and the County Mini Bus Committee will hold a public hearing on Tuesday December 21 at 1 p.m. at the CAP Center Washington to discuss operations and administration of the transportation program as the Mini Bus Program seeks state funds for 1977. Community members are invited to attend and share views. Linda Bush a Washington High senior won Honorable Mention in the Southeast Iowa Symphony Artist Talent Recognition contest at Iowa Wesleyan College, performing Glazunow Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jim Bash.

Lincoln and Waco Christmas Programs Highlight Holiday Schedule

Lincoln elementary vocal music presents its Washington elementary Christmas program December 16 at 7 30 p m in the Washington Junior High gym with 6th grade band at 7 15 under Fred Stark. Waco High School Vocal Department stages Christmas program December 20 at 8 p m featuring Madrigal and Stage Choir and excerpts from The Messiah with soloists from both high school and community. Waco Middle School hosts Christmas music December 16 at 7 30 p m featuring string band and vocal groups. Plan Mini Bus operations in Washington County

The Washington County Mini Bus Committee met December 13 at the YMCA to review operations and plan for 1977. Ed Burkholder was named chairman with Don Darbyshire as vice chairman Ruby Bontrager secretary and Mrs Margaret Tuttle treasurer. Buses traveled 37 082 miles carrying 4 017 passengers with 983 trips to Washington and 1 701 inside the county. Revenue totaled 26 591 43 from local sources and donations with 2 189 66 from Heritage Agency on Aging and county coverage of driver salaries and insurance. The county was reimbursed about three fourths of driver wages under CETA. The 1977 budget exceeds 35 600. state funds are sought to aid rural transit and vehicle replacements. Memberships at 10 a year remain available to all ages for county travel. nonmembers pay 75 cents per one way trip. Washington West Corp plans 57-room motel near city edge

Washington West Corp announced plans to build a 57-room Bavarian style motor inn on a three-acre site just off highway 1 and 92 near West Fifth Street extension. Projected cost is 750000 with opening aimed for September 1977 to serve the Farm Progress Show. The venture, financed by 10 investors and an SBA loan, follows a May market feasibility study by McGladrey Hansen Dunn predicting strong commercial demand and limited tourism appeal in the area.

DOT unveils five year plan for Iowa highways

Iowa DOT outlines a 572.3 million five year program starting July 1 to upgrade interstate and primary highways. The plan prioritizes paving and bridge work with 232 bridge projects and 419.4 miles of paving, plus major interstate I 380 and U S 65 I 330 improvements. Funding relies on state road use tax and federal dollars, with 1.05 billion in critical needs beyond the plan.

Seek swine barn funds for final renovation phase

Washington County Park Producers Association outlined the final phase of the swine barn improvement at the Washington County Fairgrounds. After a successful first phase raising funds for a 50-pen barn, contributors including pork producers, businesses, banks, feed firms, 4H and FFA groups funded the remodel of the old barn, increasing capacity from 100 to 113 pens. The association seeks $6,000 more by January 10, 1977, contributions tax deductible, with donor names to be displayed in the swine barn. Directors listed include Skubal, Greiner, Witthoft, Kauffman, Whetstine, Dickinson, Flander, Horn, and Schneider.
