An alumni dinner for Office Education and Future Business Leaders of America members at Washington High School is planned for December 20 at 6 30 p.m. in the Captain's Table. Reservations by December 17 with T. J. Berdo at 653 5229. Norlene Gegner will speak.
The Brighton Elementary School will present a Christmas program on Tuesday December 14 at 7 30 p m in the Brighton School gymnasium. The event features elementary music students directed by Ruth Shields and Berdina Bagby and the Brighton Washington elementary band ensemble directed by Fred Stark. The public is invited to attend.
Voters will go to the polls Tuesday, December 14, in the Mid-Prairie Community School District to decide a $2,250,000 bond issue for a new Wellman elementary school and improvements at other district sites. Polls open 7 am to 8 pm at Kalona Community Building Wellman Municipal Building and West Chester City Hall. Approval requires at least 60 percent yes.
Final opportunity for area residents to receive flu shots comes in January through a clean-up swine flu clinic in Washington. Bill Permar of the State Department of Health Public Health Office confirms the date and location will be announced in newspapers and on radio, with Mildred Lee and Rita Sojka guiding the clinic offering monovalent and bivalent vaccines.
Annie Wing Yee Yau economist with Hong Kong Colonial Secretariat will visit the United States December 11 to 18. Her program includes stops in Boston Cambridge Cincinnati Washington Iowa Houston Orlando and Miami to observe heavy industry agriculture aerospace technology and social life with a home visit in Washington to experience American family life in a small midwestern community and nearby farms.
A Scott County District Court jury acquitted Donald Gartin 40 of Mount Pleasant on charges of subornation of perjury and attempting to suborn or obtain false testimony in a four day trial. The jury ruled he did not encourage his client to lie to a jury in an alleged car theft ring investigation.

Former clerk Jane Zielstorf, 50, of Washington was chosen Saturday as interim judicial magistrate to fill the unexpired term of Bernard Dawson. She joins Avis Wells as part-time magistrates, with terms through July 1, 1977. Zielstorf, who lost her clerk role in the November election, has 20 years in the county and will preside over small claims and misdemeanor hearings.
President-elect Jimmy Carter said he will reveal at least two Cabinet nominees at a Tuesday news conference at the Georgia governor’s mansion. Reported picks include W Michael Blumenthal for treasury secretary, Jane Cahill Pfeiffer for commerce, and Harold Brown for defense. He also may name Cyrus Vance as secretary of state.
