The Big Four foreign ministers end a year of bitter debate with five satellite treaties for Italy Hungary Romania Bulgaria and Finland and lay plans for Germany Austria and Japan pacts. They will sign satellite pacts in Paris February 14 and reconvene in London January 14 and Moscow March 10.

Returns from the Christmas Seals drive led by Mrs. T. A. Jones show high participation with about ninety percent of replies including donations averaging just over one dollar. Most money raised supports Iowa educational work or examinations of disease contacts, helping reduce incidents and deaths by three quarters over thirty years. Continuous vigilance and fund-raising are urged to sustain progress and counter postwar disease activity.

Chrissinger Dies at Olds Home. Former Crawfordsville Resident

Charles Chrissinger of Olds died after months of illness. He ran a store there and served as postmaster before its sale. A native of Crawfordsville, he left a wife a son and a daughter. Funeral services set for Sunday at Crane Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

Legislators Favor World War II Veterans Bonus in Iowa

A United Press poll shows 66 percent of Iowa House and Senate members support a veterans bonus. Proposals range from 10 to 15 dollars per month per service month to lump sums of 200 to 500 dollars, with costs估imated at 50 million to 80 million dollars and tax implications debated.

Johnson Is Paroled After Forgery Conviction in Iowa

Charles W. Johnson of Winterset Iowa was arraigned on forgery, pled guilty, and received a ten year sentence in the state reformatory at Anamosa. The term was suspended for good behavior and he was paroled to Madison County Sheriff with a $55 restitution to Washington Gamble store for a forged check signed C W James. He had worked on road construction near Welhan as court adjourned.

Truman names Steelman and Fleming to new reconversion roles

President Truman taps John R. Steelman as assistant to the president and Maj. Gen. Philip B. Fleming as head of a temporary agency to replace abolished wartime bodies. Steelman will advise on labor policy while Fleming leads the reorganization effort.

The Dutch Creek township AAS election for 1947 was held at the township house in Dublin Friday night with seventeen voters braving icy roads. The committee elected includes Chairman Francis Feltz, vice-chair Glenn Vader, regular member Myron W Gswalt, first alternate Alvin Strum, second alternate Cloyce M Hayes. A meeting at the YMCA on Monday December 16 at 1 PM will include regular township committee members to review the 1947 program and soil building practices. State budget requests rise sharply for next two years

Des Moines reports Gov. Blue and Comptroller Porter prepare budget recommendations for the General Assembly. Forty seven departments seek an annual $54.3 million more for two years, highlighting higher salaries and supplies. The Social Welfare board leads with a $12.8 million request, including boosts for aged assistance and aid to the needy blind.

Johns Funeral Held in Crawfordsville

Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Johns will be held at the Crawfordsville Federated Presbyterian church on Monday at 2:04 PM. Burial follows in Cambrian Cemetery. Born November 14 1868 in Louisa County she married David Johns in 1905. Survivors include son Dwight Johns Providence R I and daughter Prudence Edwards Portland with five grandchildren and one great grandchild. a daughter Mee Rosanna White is deceased.

Exoneration in Iowa truck crash for Latta driver Kulp

In a Louisa county inquest held at the funeral home, Louis Kulp 36 of Muscatine was exonerated in the death of Charles Ek Latta 71 of Elmwood Park TL. Latta was killed when his car collided with a mixer truck driven by Kulp at the intersection of highways 2 and 61. Orville Latta of Chicago was injured and hospitalised at Bellevue in Muscatine. William T. Nott 80 Dead in Nebraska

Funeral services were held in Elwood Nebraska for William T. Nott age 80 a former Washington county resident. He died Tuesday at home after a period of illness born October 22 1865 near Wayland he moved to Washington county and later to Elwood where he remained married to Lorinds Park in 1888 a sister of Azuba and J. W. Park and Mrs. Bessie Brohm of Washington survives include son Lyle of Elwood and three grandchildren one son died in World War I.

A oil stove in a converted garage housing Bernice Ewert and mixed family units caused a fatal blast in Rock Falls Illinois.
