Troop to Mobilize On Jan 13 From Des Moines Release
A Des Moines press release states the 118th Cavalry a new mechanized National Guard unit will mobilize for a year of training starting Monday January 13 Troop D of Washington will assemble at the armory then depart for Camp Bowie Texas after final physicals and paper work. The unit's active roster stands at 8 8 with ten on reserve and Captain Jay Brown aims to bring 115 men to camp with room for 17 more from the reserve. Additional equipment including scout cars trucks and motorcycles will accompany the troop for the duration at Camp Bowie. Capt W G Eldridge will accompany the Washington troop as intelligence officer of the second squadron. Units of the 34th division Iowa infantry artillery and medical services are also noted in the mobilization plans.

Collision at Brighton Involving Houghton and Brottman
A collision on a Brighton street yesterday injured no one. Claude Houghton of Des Moines and Isadore Brottman of Davenport drove damaged cars valued at about 200 and 75 dollars respectively. Funeral services for 67 year old Fred Small of the Gracehill community will be held at 2 PM Sunday at the Kalona Baptist Church with Rev. C EK Hillis and Rev. Ada Hillis officiating. Burial will follow in Sharon Hill cemetery. Small died of a heart attack yesterday. He previously lived in Kalona and worked at a tile and brick factory. Survived by wife, two sons Lester and Cloyee, and a married daughter near Boone.
