Beverly Hills remarks note Germany bans the film All Quiet on the Western Front and hints at reworking it. Rogers jokes about the ban and a failing wartime stance as another disarmament conference dissolves in Geneva without results. He says two nations must stop hating to end fighting.
Helen Melinskie leads in Princess Ting Ah Ling as the girls and boys glee clubs present the operetta under Mrs. Elfriede Fresh, with Milburn McKay selecting the school orchestra. Raymond Wittrie as Ku Ku provides lively humor, and William Stewart appears as Ah Lee.
Dec 15 Des Moines reports that the joined legislative committee on taxation and the state board of assessment and review urged replacing the state property tax with new taxes including income, corporate excess, tobacco, amusement, butter substitutes, billboards, mortgage fees, and a real estate m ortgage registration. The plan would fund state operations without the property tax though a small millage might remain. The proposed income tax starts at 1 percent and rises to 5 percent with graduated brackets and adjusted exemptions to equalize tax relief across income levels.
Minneapolis police say Michael O'Brien confessed to taking part in a Leeds Iowa bank raid after being tracked to an apartment hideout. Iowa authorities had telegraphed that O'Brien fled a $7,500 Sioux City bond. Separately, Governor Christianson set an extradition hearing for James Connolly a St Paul bond broker accused as an accomplice in the Ottumwa State Savings Bank robbery in Iowa.
Revolutionary forces that captured Jaca 24 hours earlier were crushed by local government troops near Ayerbe. About 100 casualties were reported as rebels fled toward the mountains or regrouped in Jaca while federal troops pressed the advance and took dozens of prisoners.
West and statewide farmers show strong interest in sending a truck load of Washington county poultry to Chicago to relieve unemployment. Poultry houses will accept earlier drop offs, Reisters will dress birds at reduced rates, and truckers will transport at nominal cost. A register will list all contributors.

New York report quotes economist Roger W. Babson in Editor and Publisher noting advertising will revive prosperity. He says consumers are ready to spend after holding funds and banks and industry will loosen idle funds, with advertising as the trigger.
Eddie Derby 25 died from a self inflicted wound near Rubio with funeral set at Friends church. Roscoe Jones under 30 died from a self inflicted shotgun wound at his parents home west of Rubio. both deaths labeled personal safety related with no messages left. Derby worked at Singmaster timber mill near Valley.
In Chicago on December 12 two men Rudolph Marono and James Tomasulo were shot three times each and dumped from automobiles into a ditch near the Beverly Country club. One died en route to hospital, the other was dead on discovery. Tomasulo had a long criminal record, while Moreno had no known police record.
S A Dickerson, longtime J C Penney manager in Marshalltown, is appointed store manager effective January 1. He arrived in Washington in 1924 and opened the Washington Penney in August that year. The Marshalltown store will be about twice the size of the Washington shop, and Dickerson’s promotion follows W L Horn’s resignation at Marshalltown. Dickerson’s local community duties will be paused as he moves to the larger post.
Justice brings Iowa bank robbery convictions to 22 for the year as five men receive long sentences. Myrot Martin, Harris Damon, Virgil Stuart, and Clarence Perry gain life terms for the Austenville bank attempt. Glen Fayne gets 40 years for the Strawberry Point holdup. Stuart aided in arrests. other suspects linked to multiple North Iowa robberies.
Cyrus chapter Royal Arch Masons re elected J. W. Enslin as high priest H. G. McBride as king Co M Robinson as scribe George McDaniel as treasurer and Arthur Yard as secretary at the annual meeting.

Judge D W Hamilton completed the November term of district court and adjourned to his Grinnell home. He sentenced J P Patton for wife desertion to up to one year in Fort Madison penitentiary with suspension and $20 monthly payments to the clerk starting February. Paroled to the state board of parole. The next term will start January 6 with Judge Bechly of Montezuma presiding.
Army wins the annual service academy clash 6 to 0 before 78,000 at Yankee Stadium. Stecker's 56 yard final period run sparked the victory as Army outgained Navy late, with Broshous adding the extra point after a missed Notre Dame game kick. Navy mounted several rallies but could not break through.
