The Federal Reserve reports record high reserves, a 79 to 100 reserve ratio, and reduced borrowing by 8,000 member banks. Mrs Wayne Allen of Wayland died shortly before eight o'clock last night at Sunny Slope Sanitarium after illness since May. Funeral time is pending. She leaves husband Wayne Allen and two children Richard aged 4 and Shirley Mae aged 2, her father Frank Rich, four brothers Edwin Irvin Glenn and Orville, and four sisters Vivian Irene Florence and Evelyn. She was a member of the Wayland Mennonite church.
J. H. Strief of Des Moines federal prison inspector visited the county jail in Washington to evaluate its condition and prisoner treatment. He praised the facility as well kept and said the visit aims to aid federal prisoner placement when national institutions are crowded.
Fort Dodge reports the school board awarded contracts totaling 225000 dollars for a new junior high school. One hundred workers are to be employed by week’s end.
United Presbyterian Church will host a singing service Sunday night led by the men’s chorus announced by Pastor Rev. D Chalmers Fulton. Service starts at 7:30 with special numbers from the junior college quartet and the junior boys trio.

An attempted robbery of the Farmers bank vault in Chester Iowa was discovered today after thieves entered during the night and burned the safe dial with an acetylene torch. The vault door resisted the tampering and no other bank property was taken.
A Chicago man breaking into a building to steal a chicken was shot and killed by an officer. The investigation found it was his first offense. he had a wife and four children who had not eaten in three days. Washington county plans to send a poultry truck to Chicago next week to help prevent such tragedies.
The Will Dilg Conservation League chapter in Washington passed a resolution condemning new agricultural land creation by drainage damming or irrigation until population growth can absorb extra production. It backs a state patrol police bill and a nonpolitical six member fish and game commission. He led wartime policy and backed Judge Parker’s nomination fight. he would have turned 77 next January 3. He served on the appropriations judiciary and rules committees with his daughter and wife present.
