SEMCO signs 10 year landfill lease near Richland
SEMCO a four county solid waste agency signed a 10 year lease for a 71 acre tract west of Richland on highway 78 to be used as a landfill. Owners Mrs Pool and Mrs Bond receive 175 dollars per acre yearly plus 10 dollars for the balance of the land. About 10 acres will be used annually. Officials approved resistivity tests and soil samples with ISU to do final analysis. Aerial photos and topo maps expected in two weeks. The board chose Jefferson and Washington County engineers to prepare final plans.

Wellman man jailed in child delinquency case and runaway held
Sheriff's officers arrested Kirby Miller, 18, of Wellman on contributing to the delinquency of a minor charges and hold a reported runaway from the State Training School in Eldora. A stolen car, belonging to Gary Brenneman of Wellman, was recovered. Also noted is a Christmas concert by Washington High School on December 14 with detailed accompanists listed and admission prices. Two Washington men charged with marijuana possession were released on their own recognizance pending chemical analysis. Robin J. Hampsher and Steven A. Libe were later free on $500 bond each. In Columbus City a Wapello man, Donald Stalkfleet, 21, died in a head-on crash with Robert Cinnamon, 31, of Columbus Junction. Cinnamon is in serious condition at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Conger House Receives State Matching Grant
The Conger House in Washington gets a $2 000 matching funds grant from the state historical board as part of a $296 000 federal package to aid preservation. Iowa plus local sources fund the match. no state funds are used. The board approved grants in Des Moines with requests totaling about $1.4 million. What Cheer Opera House received $3 900.

Farm Woes Forecast By Iowa Cattlemen Leader
Iowa cattlemen executive vice president Larry Kallem warned the livestock industry downturn will ripple through Iowa life. He cited feeders leaving for grain farming, fewer calves sold, and regional cattle production concentrating on land poor for grain. He said consequences include less prime beef, lower state tax revenue, weaker farm retail sales, and job losses, likely continuing through 1976 unless demand meets profitable pricing.
