Miss Mildred Lanegfitt county social welfare director announced that Black Hawk county residents receiving supplemental relief must work out all relief orders. The action received unanimous support from the county board.
Carroll B. Spencer of the Federal Power Commission presides over the hearing into the rates charged by Moline-Rock Island Mrs. Co, the Tri-City area distributor of electrical power. The company is a subsidiary of United Light & Power Co.

A $3,000 fire at the James Patten farm destroyed a barn cattle shed and 20 tons of hay though the house was saved by Manchester firemen and neighbors. Patten had just completed remodeling the barn last week at a cost of $800 with little insurance.
Grimnfual Merlyn Elliott, a farmer, escaped a fatal blast when a delayed dynamite charge exploded while he inspected a log near Hickory Grove church outside Newburg IA. Elliott suffered a broken leg and minor abrasions. Chester Humphrey, present, was uninjured among about 20 workers gutting firewood.
Six to eight truck drivers at the Naey Finch Co wholesale fruit house in Ottumwa walked out. affiliated with the American Federation of Labor. Union negotiators presented a contract demanding full recognition seniority rights a 42 hour week with overtime time and a half a week vacation and no wage reduction.
Mechanicsville mayor Frank L. Miller, 57, was crushed by a tree he was helping to cut on his farm five miles west of town. Miller had served as mayor for four years and was active in the Methodist church fairs.
Clyde D. Michaelis, a local aviator, pursued a runaway aircraft on foot for fifteen minutes at the Council Bluffs airport. He managed to reach the plane after it broke from its anchorage, where the craft groundlooped. Michaelis stopped the motor, losing clothing and skin in the wild episode.
Nellie F. Prescott of Ottumwa marks her centennial birthday born in Vermont. Despite weak hearing and frail health she moves with a cane and enjoys reading and crocheting, according to her grandson Rodney Patrick.

Capt O J Hoown of Troop F says city rejects armory deed due to legal issues. Washington Armory Corporation may reorganize to take ownership next year. City council votes to reject after noting deed would obligate public funds for maintenance, deemed illegal.
