Des Moines authorities report five men in custody and warrants issued for twenty more as part of a case involving the sale of about $5,000 worth of stolen sugar to more than twenty Des Moines merchants. Mrs. J. T. Risk 77, sister of the late Sheriff R. H. McCarty, died at 5 20 this morning at her home 522 West Main after five weeks illness. Funeral at 2 PM Saturday at Sherman s funeral home with Dr BK Schwartz of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Brighton cemetery. Born Louisa Elizabeth McCarty August 10 1858 in Clay, she married James Thomas Risk February 4 1896. She lived in Keokuk county before moving to Washington in 1907. Surviving two children Robert C. and Mrs. Helen Ward two grandsons Clayton and Kenneth Ward and one son William Arthur died in 1905. Also surviving two brothers A H McCarty of Brighton W M McCarty of Washington one sister Mrs Mary Lamm of Louisiana. Eight siblings are deceased. She was a longtime Methodist and former member of the Pythian Sisters and the Women's Relief Corps. The Journal s Three Quarter Century club provided her with many meetings she enjoyed.

Mrs. L. P. Jackson, about 70, died at 1 20 this afternoon at 523 North Avenue B. Funeral plans were not made. She was the wife of the former head of the bank at West Chester. The couple lived in Brighton before moving to Washington. She had been in failing health for some time. The body was taken to the L A Jones funeral home.

In East Rochester Ohio a barn on the Henry Summer farm was struck by lightning three times. The first strike occurred in 1889 and the final bolt set the barn on fire, burning the structure.
