Roy Harras, a farmer west of Millersburg, accidentally discharged a loaded gun while reloading after shooting a rabbit. His 11-year-old son Mervin Leroy died from the wound while en route to a hospital. The accident also involved Mervin’s brothers Orville and Howard.
Gale Johnson, Des Moines, is convicted of first degree murder in connection with the May poll loss. F. W. Sauer faces life in prison as ordered by Judge Oscar Hale in district court. OTTUMWA accident follows a teen’s fatal injury from a truck collision on a frozen street. SIOUX CITY raids net 113 arrests across liquor venues including Broadway Night Club and Turin Inn.
Allison W. F. Brocka of Parkersburg Iowa pleaded guilty Monday to driving while intoxicated and was fined 300 dollars plus costs. In default of payment he faces 90 days in jail.

In Muscatine on December 11 02 Judge W A Maines ruled that liquor legally purchased in another state cannot be prosecuted in Iowa if kept for private use and not for resale. The decision follows a Davenport pre civil war doctrine and centers on Lewis Getta who was arrested for transporting Illinois bought liquor into Iowa.
Des Moines December 12 LaVern Clark state income tax director announced blanks for the new Iowa income tax go into effect January. Taxpayers must request and complete forms at county treasurers banks and chambers of commerce. The personal net income tax ranges from 1 percent to 5 percent on incomes over five thousand with exemptions for ordinary expenses debt interest and charitable donations limited to 15 percent of total income.
A blaze at the Kerns hotel in Lansing early today killed more than 20 people and left at least nine others perished or missing. Nine state legislators were inside. five known dead and one senator missing. Firemen faced wind and cold as victims leaped into the Grand River. hospital reports list at least 30 injured.
In Geneva December 11 following threats of war in Central Europe Jugoslavian and Hungarian leaders agreed to a League of Nations resolution deploring crimes at Quirsielles. The council credited the two nations with peace efforts, Hungary to report nonactive actions against culpable authorities and share measures with the council.
