Cedar Rapids funeral arrangements were under way Sunday for Isabell Frances Rich 4 who drowned when her sled crashed through ice on a creek near the Rich farm northeast of Center Point Ta. Albin R A Perkins of Carlisle and Orville Martz of Ottumwa suffered injuries last night when their truck loaded with apples slid on ice and crashed into a Burlington freight train near the caboose, derailing two cars. Davenport Central Engineering Co awarded the contract for Dam No 16 at Muscatine Ia after submitting a low bid of 2 053 130 05 days earlier.

Four investigators are actively checking 420 applications for old age pensions in the county. 105 have cleared the county board and were sent to Des Moines for final approval. Crawfordsville reports the death of William James Maxwell age 83 of Avoca Iowa from a stroke. He ran a drug store since moving there after marrying Addie Bellvill of Washington in 1870 and was active in church. Survived by in laws Mrs John Sease Mrs John Anwyl Mrs Fred Sipe and Bruce Lease and others. funeral plans incomplete.
The State theater opens a new production titled Flirtation Walk set at West Point Military Academy. The film features Dick Powell Pub Keeler and Tat O'Brien with cadets from West Point shown in the screen’s first military milieu noted for bands and flare.
The Iowa Supreme Court stayed Judge J A Murray’s removal of County Attorney Mor and blocked a special county attorney from taking over the Shelby County grand jury probe into alleged election fraud. The court found Murray overstepped, amid claims of political influence and coercion involving relief recipients and county Democrats.
