The Middle School of Waco district will present a Christmas program on December 18 at 1 30 p m A short one act play by the ninth grade Drama Club directed by Mrs Hinkle opens the program A music program follows with sixth seventh and eighth grade general music classes directed by Jane Trotter assisted by Betty Becker Refreshments will be served by Mrs Wilkersons seventh and eighth grade Home Economics classes
National Farmers Organization President Oren Lee Staley dismissed talk of a leadership challenge amid SEC accusations of mismanagement and calls for a bankruptcy receiver. Delano Paulson of Dodge Center Minnesota runs for NFO president as the convention opens with an expected ten thousand attendees.
Washington County Cattlemen's Association board met December 9 at 6 30 p m at the Washington Sale Barn. They praised the first pre conditioned calf sale and outlined plans for a January 14 sale with a special calf and yearling division open to non pre conditioned cattle. December 21 is the vaccine deadline for cattle to be sold January 4. Cowbelles will serve lunch for the sale which starts at 1 p m. The group also scheduled the annual meeting and supper for late January. Six directors attended along with Jim Frier the County Extension director and one guest.
Washington County Republican Chairman Harvey Holden said preparations are under way for the Republican Citizens Caucuses in mid January. Precinct caucuses are set for January 19 with statewide caucuses the same day. Holden expects an open caucus convention system in Iowa in 1976 to reflect views at district, state, and national levels.
Washington County Park Producer's Association launched a fundraising drive for a 50 pen swine barn at the fairgrounds. Last year 134 pens were entered by 4 H and FFA. organizers seek a market hog or its value from 75 producers. Co-chairs Marek and Shalla call for township donations with tax deductible gifts to the Fair Building Fund and recognition for hog contributors.

Des Moines UPI reports federal highway safety official Fred W. Vetter Jr. told Iowa lawmakers that credit for reducing traffic fatalities goes to state and local governments. He cited Iowa's drop to the national rate, urged strict enforcement of the 55 mph limit, and highlighted four safety emphases including drunk driving, emissions, smaller cars with airbags, and a national public awareness campaign launching around Christmas. Senate leaders discussed Midwest adaptation to slower speeds, with mixed views on the policy.
J Merrill Anderson of Newton urged the Iowa Legislature to change how agricultural land is assessed, recommending action in the early next session. He warned that assessments tied to sales value would rise relative to other property and urged reforms in inheritance laws financing road bridges and livestock disease control.
Des Moines reports a legislative study committee examining malpractice voted to back next year’s bill. It would empower the State Board of Medical Examiners and licensing bodies to use enhanced reporting on criminal convictions malpractice claims and other factors to decide license renewals. Dr. John Rhodes chairing the Board noted reporting competence is hard for professionals.
Cars driven by Mrs. Mabel Cumming and Mrs. Elizabeth Hunsaker collided at the intersection of South Iowa Avenue and Jackson Street Tuesday at 11 43 a.m. Police reported total damage of 51325 including a utility pole and stop sign. Cumming was charged with failure to yield. Earlier, December 5, at East Second and North Fourth, cars driven by David Custer and Preston Conant collided. Conant charged with failure to yield after a stop. Damage was estimated at 750.
Ballots were counted Monday to elect community committeemen for the coming year. The list names chairman, vice chairman, regular member, first and second alternates for each township including Brighton, Cedar, Crawford, Dutch Creek, English River, Franklin, Highland, Iowa, Jackson, Lime Creek, Marion, Oregon, Seventy Six, and Washington townships with recipients such as Earl Dickinson, Lyle Wilson, Delbert Lowe, Gary Shelangoski, Roger Altenhofen, Kenneth Patterson, Harvey Timmins, Wesley Freel, John Duvall, Victor Parcell, Ray Moorer, Benjamin Leeper, Lane Morgan, Charles Blakely, David Henry Davis, Wayne Williams, Leonard Arthur, George Fulton, Garry Suter, Leland Sheetz, Roger Brinning, Clifford Small, Richard Scott, Eldon Gingerich, William Riggan, Merle Colton, Oscar Steele, Ralph Witthoft, Peter Gerot, Larry Gerot, Edward Whetstine, Edward Jarrard and others. The election was conducted by mail and the county ASC convention is set for Saturday Dec 13 at 10 a.m. in BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP and others.
Emploees guests and their spouses gathered at Jack Hamiltons Clubhouse to mark the first 25 years of Washington Manufacturing Co. Robert S Reed presided as general manager and VP. Founder Robert Goodwin noted steady growth since acquiring Carris Manufacturing Co. in Washington and moving to the current site in 1966. Ten-year watch awards were given, several retirees honored, and six long-time employees recognized for their service. The Old Gold Singers from the University of Iowa provided entertainment.
