Car Crash Near Washington Causes Minor Injuries
David Crawford of Washington drove a 1975 model car into an overhead rail bridge abutment northwest of Washington after drifting from the roadway. The vehicle suffered about 4400 dollars in damage. Crawford and passenger Chris Beliel were treated for minor injuries. Crawford was charged with failure to stop in the assured clear distance.

FBI says body of 25 year old Detroit assistant bank manager James J. Crawford Jr. was found in Newark Ohio after a weeklong kidnapping. Three men charged with extortion were arrested in Ohio and arraigned with bond set at 700000.

Regents set to consider pay plan and UNI faculty constitution
Iowa Board of Regents moves into two key debates at its two day Cedar Falls meeting. A proposed merit pay plan with a 6 percent cost of living rise plus up to 4 percent merit pay would add about 2.8 million to the 1976 77 budget. Merit employee groups oppose the hike. The UNI faculty constitution would expand faculty control over university administration, a shift Regents oppose. The board also approves a 150.6 million ten year capital program and notes rising student aid costs with criticism over treatment of graduate costs as aid.
