Loretta Cusack 40 assistant principal of Creston Senior High hospitalised for facial burns from a furnace blast at her home. Particles of oxidized iron injured her eyes but doctors expect vision to be saved.
A federal investigation report notes a man and a woman possibly Benny Dickson and his wife seen south of Jefferson with an escort. They were in a vehicle that stopped to inspect Highway 39 before turning west. A man possibly Dickson was seen with a bandaged head.
In Dubuque two brothers Marvin and Gene Myers aged 10 and 12 found a pocketbook on a downtown street containing $45 and owner details. They returned it to Mrs. Clara Splinter, hoping Santa would reward their honesty.
Cedar Rapids Iowa organized labor lines up a protest to end state aid for Farm Bureaus. A A Couch president of the Iowa State Federation of Labor spoke at a local central body meeting and cited a convention resolution branding county agricultural units as company unions.

Colfax report on Verle Roush a 25 year old Des Moines trucker who suffered severe burns to face and hands when his truck buckled into bridge railings three miles east of Colfax. He kicked out the door glass and crawled free minutes before gasoline tanks exploded.
Henry Reynolds, 16, missing since September after a minor car accident while returning from a skating party, arrived back at his farm home near Sharon, Iowa. He gave no explanation beyond being tired of farm life. his parents are Mr and Mrs Charles Reynolds.
The Evanston chief of police explains a device called the drunkometer to verify sobriety six minutes after a claim of not drinking. It uses a toy balloon breath sample and a red liquid that lightens if a drink was consumed. inventor Dr. R. H. Berger of the Indiana College of Medicine developed the device.
In Washington County 21 motor vehicles were registered in the past week signaling brisk sales. The county treasurer reports 117 more car licenses than last year at this date and 16 more truck licenses. A total of 527 car plates and 60 truck plates were issued this month, with owners including Bauer of Keota and Walker of Crawfordsville among others.

Heavy consignments of stock at the Rock Island stockyards may require another special train tomorrow. A 12-car double deck hog train previously moved from Rock Island to Eldon and on to Kansas City.
