Parents Plead for Son Serving Time in Iowa

Mr. and Mrs. David Townsend of Waterloo appealed to Governor Kraschel for remission of a $1,000 fine imposed in Franklin county in September 1937 for driving while intoxicated. Townsend, the first Iowa defendant with blood test evidence, has completed a one year jail term.

Prairie Grove club adopts resolution opposing German Italian Japanese goods

The Prairie Grove Farm club votes 83 members in favor of a resolution opposing the purchase of commodities manufactured in Germany Italy and Japan. The measure was proposed by A. A. Saarmann a former Socialist candidate for congress and governor.

Butcher Arrested for Attack on Wife with Tenderizer

Thomas P F Jansen a 34 year old Davenport butcher shop proprietor was booked on assault charges after an attack on his wife using a meat tenderizer in his shop. Mrs Jansen suffered serious bruising cuts and her glasses were shattered. A shop employee who aided her was struck.

Cargo of 17,000 pounds of oil threatened by strikers

A 17,000 pound oil cargo was threatened by fire during a 12 week truck strike in Mills county. Devier Dimons of Kansas City was attacked by six pickets on Highway 275 who chased him from the truck and set the cab on fire. Traffic was blocked for hours until a wrecker cleared the road.

Mason City reports three Clear Lake High School students Harold Grell Gene Enabait and Lee Boyd escaped drowning when their ice boat crashed through the ice into ten feet of water a thousand feet from the south shore Grell crawled toward the shore while Rob Sweiger of Shady Beach resort hauled the others to safety using a rope tied to an inflated inner tube

Hunt for mother who left infant at Mercy hospital

Mercy hospital authorities faced an apparently abandoned two month old baby. Sheriff Thomas Poder of Dubuane County said the mother, Louise Kelly a former beauty shop operator, left the hospital two weeks after the birth and has not returned to claim the child.

Iowa Hi Y Conference Opens with 172 Delegates

Dr Slutz spoke on The Meaning of Democracy as 172 delegates from 22 towns gathered at the eastern Iowa Hi Y conference. John Applegate Miss Alice Anderson and Dale Voorhees organized registration at the Y M C A with sessions at the Methodist church in Cedar Falls. Continuous discussions on Living in a Christian Democracy followed the opening address and six topic groups were formed for Friday and Saturday sessions.

Wolfe win grand champion at Washington county poultry show

Mr and Mrs Joe Wolfe of the Wolfe hatchery captured the grand champion Buff Plymouth Rock cockerel and the Eicher trophy for best display by a Washington county poultry raiser at the Washington county poultry show at city hall. Report Dickson Seen at Ottumwa

Ottumwa Iowa December 9_Report says Benny Dickson and wife Estelle sought kidnaping and bank robbery charges across the Midwest were spotted in Ottumwa early today. A caretaker reported a man resembling Dickson in a car with a wrapped head in the front seat and a second man in the rear. The vehicle, parked on a residential street at four this morning, had mud coated plates. The car reportedly headed northwest toward Oskaloosa on Highway 63. Several women from nearby towns were seen shopping in Ottumwa yesterday.

Crandall Case Nears End In Court

The state versus William Crandall likely heads to the jury late today or tomorrow morning after closing arguments by Richard A. Stewart and L. J. Kehoe. State witnesses included Cecil Replogle and family. Crandall presented testimony from his relatives and others with rebuttal to follow.
