Des Moines health officials remind mothers that without a birth certificate a child may not prove citizenship and could be unable to become president. Iowa taxes for poor relief are projected to rise from $500000 to $5 million annually in 30 years with next year’s levies between five and six million dollars.
Cedar Rapids resident Ed Hazleton narrowly avoided death when his car skidded into a locomotive. He lay under the engine but was saved as the wheels tore his clothing and he escaped with only scratches.
Wapello moves toward full backing of the Townsend plan as 95 percent of voters sign a petition. J H Dickson, president of the Old Age Pension Revolving club, says the town will be 100 percent for the plan promising $200 a month pensions to all over 60.
Frank Marvels, on relief, was sentenced to 90 days in Black Hawk county jail after pleading guilty to liquor charges. He allegedly sold liquor to others on relief. he has a wife and eight children.

In Columbia Missouri airmail pilot Lew Bowen of Chicago with registration 389 died when his airmail plane from Chicago to Kansas City crashed. The crash cause was undetermined as flames destroyed the craft and burned the pilot beyond identification. The tail was found 30 yards away and a partially opened parachute was located near the wreckage.
Fire crews were called to SU8 Mast seventh street at noon to extinguish four small roof fires. Willard Deals and Henry Shilligs occupied the residence. Officials said the blaze began from sparks from a stove chimney.
Earl L. Smith reports at the Washington County Farm Bureau annual convention that the federation shows a credit balance for the first time in years. Assets total 9681? and liabilities 2395.21, yielding a 572.95 credit with some 1934 memberships unpaid.
Santa Claus will visit Washington next Saturday with a retinue of assistants arranged through the Chamber of Commerce. He will also visit shut in children at their homes via arrangements with Clarence Logan.

Extensive meetings, heavy telephone traffic, and creosote distribution char acterize efforts with 6812 office callers and 1 401 telephone calls. More than 2 000 farmers obtained creosote through Farm Bureau, sixteen earloads totaling 160 000 gallons, the largest county share.

A Sigourney truck with three men aboard wrecked on primary road No 164 south of Crawfordsville. The Buckles vehicle overturned into a ditch after clipping a car driven by Cecil Kort. All three occupants escaped injury. the truck carried coal from Illinois and was later towed to Washington for repair.
