Des Moines reports total value of Iowa crops for 1831 42 million dollars with low prices and high costs. Reed cites weather and agriculture conditions, noting droughty winters and the driest November in memory as factors affecting yields and prices.
Washington County officials and a Henry Jefferson county group petitioned the state highway commission for a new primary road from Wayland west, seeking to extend the gravel Olds to Wayland route east to join primary road No 1 near Brighton or Pleasant Plain. The move aims to settle the Copnock bridge dispute over the Skunk River by transferring road ownership to the state, with the bridge currently in poor condition requiring repair. United Press reports President Hoover and Secretary Mellon back a new budget plan taxing many daily expenses. The outline targets cigars, theater, telephone calls over 14 cents, auto radios, and phonographs with income taxes rising for most workers.
Mrs Leah Darnell 73 died at noon today at her home 202%% South Town Avenue after a long heart ailment. Funeral plans were not set. details for services will be available tomorrow. Arrangements are with Sherman’s undertaker at home.
A meeting of Commercial Savings bank depositors will take place Friday evening December 11 at 7 30 in the Washington high school auditorium. Tonight at eight oclock the District Knights of Columbus meet at the Washington county hospital nurses home. Miss Marie Jackson will graduate from the nurses training school with a program including a processional, music by a string trio, and remarks by Eardley Bell Jr. A reception follows and presentation of the diploma. Next week district K. C. meeting shifts to Town City with Father McDermott and other dignitaries attending. a father and son gathering and pot luck supper are planned.

Kennedy was installed as commander and George Burham as senior vice commander. Officers will be installed at the January meeting.

Depositors of the Commercial Savings Bank are invited to a Friday evening meeting at 7:30 in the Washington High School auditorium to hear a minute explanation of the reorganization plan.
