Iowa City doctors reported Grant Teague 23 of Ovlwein in a very serious condition and refused to discuss his case. Grief over the death of his lifelong friend Arthur Kunkle 25 is believed to have partly caused the illness as Teague lies comatose in his hospital bed.
Deputy county superintendent Marcella Refshauge identified seven fox cubs found north of Dunkerton near the county auditor’s office. Amid speculation about their species, she confirmed they were foxes and plans to wear a red fox fur for Christmas.
The 1935 26 official register, or Red Book, cost $9,640.96 to print, per Tom J. White, superintendent of State printing. The expense exceeded the 1933 24 volume by $1,893.32, though the new edition adds 138 pages. Twenty thousand copies were printed.

Investigators probe the collision of the Northwestern Overland Limited with a Milwaukee freight at Clinton. The passenger engine and fireman were shaken but uninjured overall. two freight cars derailed and a baggage car and coach were wrecked. The Overland ran from Chicago to Los Angeles.
The public is welcome to attend the amateur contest at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Legion hall. Contestants represent each Auxiliary unit in the county and all Auxiliary members are urged to attend.
Neighbors gathered at the A. C. Beenblossom home yesterday afternoon to husk his corn as Mr Beenblossom is ill. Sixteen people helped complete the husking endeavor.
The Coast to Coast store opens this Saturday led by owner William Tracy and son and assistant manager M J Tracy. Locally owned yet nationally organized the chain expands with midwest ties and plans to open multiple stores weekly reaching two to three hundred. The Traceys relocate from Macon Missouri to Washington and expect Mrs Tracy and Byron to join next spring.
John Winga Cloud Willis and Bob Lytle were elected directors of the Washington Chamber of Commerce to serve two year terms replacing Rothechild Lewis Warren and Dr W S Kyle. Others on the board include George McDaniel A E tchison and O E F Sehmits. A committee will study a proposed use for Chautauqua park for summer conventions including outdoor tent village meetings for church youth groups.
Iowa public works director P F Hopkins predicts success for nearly all of the 10.5 million PWA program with nine days to deadline. Two projects complete and many under construction, including 80 schools valued at 4.36 million. He notes negotiations near completion on others and a major flood control project at Indian Creek worth 1.652 million.
Steubenville Ohio December 6 Four men died in an explosion at the Wok Run coal mine near Steubenville. Twenty one others were trapped and rescued after rescue teams worked nine hours. Bodies were found a mile from the mine entrance.
Secretary Leigh Soule of the Y M C A and Harold Williams of the high school faculty take fourteen boys to the Older boys conference for eastern Iowa and western Illinois in Rock Island. They travel by car and train and will return Sunday at noon. The group includes Wendell Baker Donald Marek Fott McCutchen Jack Gibson James Birney Clifford Biecha Billy Plum David Pearson Richard Birney Cloid Willits Jr Douglas Eastwood Charles Bear Gifford Morrison and Dwane Griggs.
Federal and state officers killed one and wounded another member of the O Malley gang after they shot their way out of Muskogee jail. A third gangster was wounded critically in the melee near McAlester Oklahoma on December 6.

The afternoon mail truck will now leave Washington for Iowa City at 4 35 this week to connect with the mail truck heading south from Ainsworth. This replaces the previous 4 oclock departure and aligns with the southern route schedule.
Secretary Fred Downing of the local civil service board will oversee special postmasters examinations tomorrow December 7 under civil service commission instructions. Twelve applicants are expected to take the tests for postmaster positions in Hedrick Nichols North English Winfield Williamsburg West Liberty and Oakdale.

Bernard Daryl Lewis, 23, died at Washington county hospital at 12 20 AM from pneumonia. Funeral service set for 2 PM Sunday at L A Jones funeral home with Dr B F Schwartz officiating. Burial in Keota cemetery. Born December 4 1911 in Bird City Kansas he was the son of Elwin and Neilie M Pardon Lewis. He lived in the county since childhood attended Washington schools worked on local farms and married Florence Martin February 4 1932 in Rock Island. Survived by widow, his parents, and brothers and sisters Mrs Howard Disney of Wayland Everett Lewis of Keota, William, Retha, Ena and Una, all of Washington.
The National Re employment office in the basement of the post office will close Saturday morning due to civil service examinations. The office will reopen Monday as usual.

Mrs. George Rudiger, president of the Washington Parent-Teacher association, oversees the Christmas seal sale. Cash receipts total 148.85 toward a local quota. One thousand letters with stamps were sent. 281 returns have come in, 17 percent with cash, 93 without. Returns average about fifty letters daily. further responses are urged.
