Washington lodge of Masons elected officers for January in a session at the new building. Harry C. Ward became master while Glenn I. Mace, C. M. Robinson and George McDaniel assumed senior and junior warden and treasurer roles respectively. A new Bible was donated by Wilder C. Bell and T. L. Brookhart for the altar.
H L Walker of Jackson township was re elected president and Richard Stephens of Oregon township re elected vice president at the Washington county farm bureau annual meeting. John Stewart and Walter R Brown were secretary and treasurer. New department heads include Mrs EB L Stewart and Joe Wright with others named for girls boys and home project work. Membership rose by 94 to about 5600. East side won the canvass with more new members. John Jones of Haskins was banner solicitor with 23 memberships. Over 100 people attended the noon dinner served by farm bureau women and 4 H club girls.
Iowa captured 67 championships and 113 first places to lead 25 states at the Chicago expo closing. Illinois and Indiana followed with 58 and 48 championships respectively, while Canada earned 13. Grand champions included multiple boars sows bulls cows and sheep across breeding and fat classes. Auctioneers sold prize animals as the “Chocolate” steer fetched 56 cents per pound. 2970 proceeds benefited Chicago Salvation Army kitchens.
The first week of December saw eight new Chevrolet vehicles registered across multiple towns. Entries include Forrest Green Keota Kalona Washington Brighton Riverside and individuals such as Chas Schnoebelen H G Richardson Tom Morgan Earl Chambers M J Wilkinson and Dr Walter Gingerien.

County Agent Harold J. Montgomery presents the 1930 Washington County Farm Bureau annual report. Highlights include 405 memberships, 1,762 in attendance at 40 township meetings, 697 farm and home visits, 2,752 interviews, 4,671 office callers, and 26,132 total individual contacts. Junior clubs enrolled 184 members, with 155 completing programs. 107 girls completed home furnishing work and 184 total junior members.
One hundred thirty six people enrolled in the Washington county leadership training school which closed last night Certificates of credit recognized by the International Council of Religious Education were given to attendees who completed the required work Seventy six certificates were issued with fourteen more to be awarded upon completion of remaining work The enrollment by church and class details are listed with names from Washington U P Eich er Mennonite Washington M E and others The Bible class enrollment totaled 54 with various methods and youth programs represented by multiple church groups
Mrs. Rose Reid announces a county wide Red Cross roll call record with 906 members and $960.30 in total donations including 7 contributing memberships and 19.30 from three towns. Ward chairmen list and town totals show significant gains across Kalona Riverside Wellman West Chester Ainsworth and Crawfordsville.

Riverside announces a reunion of the Young Men’s and Young Ladies’ Sodalities at St Mary’s church in Riverside. The event on December 8 includes a 6 30 p m pot luck lunch, speeches, parish singing, reminiscences, and letters from former members. Members from over twenty states and Canada were invited. Father B Jacobsmeier notes the gathering commemorates the sodalities’ formation.
Washington pastors and education leaders coordinate a Good Fellows drive to support needy families at Christmas. About 15 percent of the goal has come in via coupons, with 85 percent expected soon. donations are voluntary and no solicitations will be made. Names of donors may be published periodically, including contributions from Crawfordsville and outside towns. The $44.50 total includes individuals and a few organizations such as Montgomery Ward & Co.
James McFarland 87 a Vern on Alabama bank official in Pittsburgh suburb Allegheny Trust was shot during a robbery as he refused the bandit's demand for money about $1000 taken. He died in the teller cage while two women patrons watched. The bandit fled.
The House Agriculture Committee approved a 30 million dollar appropriation for seed feed and fertilizer loans to drought stricken farmers. The Senate committee had approved 60 million dollars the day before.
The official toll from dense fog in the Meuse valley rises to 60 with the health ministry stating all victims had pre existing lung or heart conditions worsened by the heavy mist. Meanwhile Boulder City Nevada is planned as the name for the Boulder Dam site replacing Wilbur.

Members of the Wet Bloc in the House express satisfaction with their first prohibition vote of the new session led by Representative Linthicum Maryland. They plan another push against the dry law and aim to block a 2 million dollar fund for 500 new federal dry agents. The moment of optimism followed the defeat of the Linthicum poison alcohol amendment 106 to 54, a tighter margin than the January tally 107 to 27.
