Des Moines police seek Joseph Rogers after a man shot Mary O'Dell 35 in a hotel lobby. Seven year old Jimmy O'Dell told officers he kicked the assailant as the gun fired, saving or trying to save his mother who died. Authorities issued a statewide alert and await word on Rogers.

Funeral is set for Wednesday at 2:30 at Powell funeral home with Rev. Don Bissinger. burial in Wellman Cemetery. Survivors include brother William Baker of St Paul and sister Mrs Nettie Miller. she was a Methodist and member of Eastern Stars and Pythian Sisters.

Jerry Carris of Washington, now near Moline, Illinois, received a U S patent on November 14, 1950, for a phonograph tone arm that keeps the arm at a constant angle to the record to reduce wear. The device uses a primary and secondary arm guided by a center pin on the turntable, applicable to coin operated drop table changers or home machines. The patent was filed April 5, 1945 and includes five original claims. One half of the patent belongs to Riley R. Osborn of Chicago.
