Paris reports a government move to mobilize army reservists to quell a national crisis rising from sabotage that killed at least 20 to 24 people near Arras. Mobile guards blocked access to the National Assembly as police and troops prepared to curb potential communist demonstrations and enforce security measures.
Christmas season greetings extend to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Trier and welcome Mrs Trier. Reports recall Mr. Trier’s arrival March 1, 1947 with Verk at the Ernest Carlson farm. Don Stutsman a Washington turkey grower plans to sue Hill Top Farm Feed of Minneapolis and Marquette National Bank of Minneapolis over a dispute tied to a bank suit for 43499.13. He claims the feed did not meet contract specs and damaged turkeys. The bank seeks notes totaling 41399.12 plus 2000 expenses and attachment. Stutsman says the action aims to deter low grade feed substitutions and will not affect his Corn Belt turkey plant operations.
Chairman Charles A. Eaton warns Russia could conquer Europe in 24 hours and urges swift action on a 590 million dollar foreign aid bill for France Italy Austria and China. He notes 6,213,000 Soviet troops versus 3,416,000 in free European states and says the aid would boost morale and endurance. The House bill proposes 530 million for the three nations and 60 million for China. the Senate would fund 597 million for the three nations and none for China.
The Milwaukee road announces adding a new fleet between Chicago and Madison and Mason City and Sioux Falls. The expansion brings the total diesel electric locomotives to 175.
Edward O Neill of Towa City files a 25000 damage suit in district court against Earl Sangster owner of Yellow Cab Co. over the June 12 traffic death of Regina O Neill, 20. The case is among five arising from the same accident.
