Funeral at Brighton For Mrs Harken 81
Funeral services for Mrs. P. J. Harken will be held Saturday at 2 pm in Gould Funeral Home Brighton. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. She died Tuesday August 29 at her home west of Brighton at age 81 from a heart attack. Maude Pringle born January 22, 1880 southeast of Richland later moved to Kansas and married P. J. Harken January 15, 1908. They operated a general store at Yeo and she was a member of the Methodist Church and the OES at Brighton. Survivors include her husband one daughter Pauline McClintic of Brighton one granddaughter and one great granddaughter and a sister WF Hampton of Arkansas. Her parents four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Suspected Sniper In Omaha Remains Silent

Two 4H demonstration teams from Washington County earned blue ribbons at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines on Tuesday. Merritt Canady, extension associate, accompanied the boys. Rescuers Save Last Of 81 Tourists In Alps
Rescuers in the Mont Blanc range hauled the final 11,000 foot group to safety after a jet sliced a tow cable, killing six and injuring many others. Eighty one survivors were recovered. all in good condition though fatigued and shaken after 19 hours in cold air. The last group included one woman and one child.

Temperatures stay steady with a low 65 to 70 and a high 90 to 95 on Thursday. The five day forecast shows temperatures about 5 degrees above normal, with normal highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s and lows in the mid 50s to lower 60s, turning cooler by weekend and rainfall around 1 to 1.25 inches north Thursday and districtwide Saturday or Sunday.
