Inductees Leave Sept 9 10 11 for Camp Dodge
Washington county selective service board received travel orders for men inducted into the army last week at Camp Dodge. Forty five depart September 9, ten on September 10, and two on September 11. They leave Washington on the Milwaukee local train at 9 68 by way of Ottumwa arriving at Camp Dodge that night. Chairman Robert Schell and the patriotic committee will arrange sendoffs and a combined program for the departing groups.

Iowa State college adds two naval and air force training groups
Two more groups of enlisted men arrived on the Ames campus to attend the naval training school for electricians and the aircraft machinists' school of the army air forces. The fourth contingent of sailors arrived Friday evening to bring the naval school to about 200 enlisted men. The men received 16 weeks of training.

Truck Fire Near Here Halts 10 Ton Cargo Bound for Denver
A semi-trailer freight truck carrying a 10 ton cargo burned Sunday afternoon after overturning in a ditch two miles east of here on Highway 30. Driver Ed Jones, 29, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, told Sheriff C. E. Bullis he reached down for a wrench on the cab floor when the truck ran out of control.

Two Men Injured Riding a Motorcycle in Keokuk
Two Keokuk men suffer serious injuries after their motorcycle collides with a car driven by Fred Ligget on Highway 61 near the Missouri line. The crash occurred about 12:30 a m Sunday. Len Roland, 30, is at St Joseph hospital with shock torn foot and knee injuries. Layman Points, 28, is at Graham hospital with head injuries and a leg fracture.

Tire theft strikes Stutsman car on West Main Street
A wheel and tire were stolen from Dr. E. B. Stutsman’s car on West Main Street, Washington, marking the fourth tire theft on streets in ten days. Senate panel approves 80 percent tax cap for corporations
The senate finance committee voted 11 to 8 to back a treasury proposal prohibiting taxes above 80 percent of taxable income. It endorsed the house revenue bill corporate rates and rejected treasury efforts to lift the normal rate to 55 percent. Officials were urged to revert to the original 40 percent figure, while keeping the 45 percent rate on forms adopted by the house and the 90 percent excess profits tax.
