Washington girl hit by motorcycle near South Ave B
Kathy Jones 14, daughter of Mr and Mrs Karl Jones of Washington, was treated at Washington County Hospital after being struck by a motorcycle near the intersection of South Avenue B and West Madison Street on Friday afternoon. Police reported about 30 damage to the motorcycle driven by Steve Wayne Jaspering of Washington. The pedestrian was walking home and not believed seriously hurt.

Farmington Man Held on Open Murder Charge in Teen Shooting
A bond review hearing was set today for Danny Himes, 23, of Farmington, held on an open murder charge in the fatal shooting of 16 year old Timmy J. Petty. Himes remained in the Van Buren County Jail on a $100,000 bond as investigators from the county sheriff’s department Farmington police and the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation pursued the case. The motive was not disclosed and authorities described the two men as friends.

The Washington Jaycees will lead the 11th annual Jerry Lewis telethon for Muscular Dystrophy over Labor Day weekend from 8 p.m. Sunday to 5:30 p.m. Monday.
