The National Oil plant in CamVana Argentina valued at 55 million dollars was wiped out by blasts and fires. Fourteen deaths are confirmed with forty injuries and hundreds missing. The blaze spread over two thirds of a square mile as 1,500 residents and six nearby fire brigades fought the flames.
Gen. Henry S. Johnson, administrator of the National Recovery Administration, receives a salary boost from 6000 to 15000 dollars per year. The raise, effective July 1, was ordered by President Roosevelt, addressing Johnsons concern that government service hindered his private earnings.
