A nightlong tornado and wind siege tore through the Midwest from Iowa to Indiana. One Iowa farmer Russell Born died near La Porte City as storms brought 93 mph winds, heavy flooding, and widespread power outages. Community safety conference planned for October 12

A 1965 Washington High grad he will study fish and wildlife biology at Iowa State University College of Agriculture. Forty six entering freshmen in agriculture received such aid this summer ranging from 1400 to 150. Ackley marshals chase unidentified flying object
Two Ackley town marshals William Kent and William Laundgille Jr. 24 said they chased an unidentified flying object at speeds up to 85 mph just after midnight. They described it as about 18 inches in diameter with a bright red top, appearing like it was on fire and passing within less than 100 feet in front of them.

Communist forces overran Tan Nhut eight miles southwest of Saigon and attacked positions north and south of the capital. U S military spokesmen reported heavy Viet Cong casualties and equipment losses after an attack that began about 1 15 a m U S Army helicopters and Vietnamese rangers counterattacked. HONG KONG. An American Korean War turncoat Morris R. Wills of Fort Ann New York has permission to depart Communist China. He and his Chinese wife and their daughter are reportedly headed to Hong Kong within a month. White, the other turncoat, plans to leave for Kansas City next week.
