An overpass one mile west of Anita will close on Interstate 80 from U.S. 71 to Adair for two to three hours to repair damage from a crane being hauled by a semi. The bridge sustained about 80,000 dollars in damage. no damage to the crane or driver Lawrence Miller of Hamburg was reported.
Twenty of Iowa's 118 assessing districts filed protests against tentative property tax equalization orders issued by the state Revenue Department. The 15 counties and five cities expect hearings. reasons include rising property values and non retroactive increases. Cities named include Iowa City Marshalltown Clinton Boone Sioux City. counties listed include Johnson Washington Adair Iowa Van Buren Tama Lucas Jefferson Guthrie Clinton Webster Cherokee Monona Pottawattamie Humboldt.
A weather forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms tonight and Friday. The low will be in the mid 60s with a high near 80 on Friday. Winds shift southeast at 15 to 20 mph. Rain chances are about 30 percent for tonight and Friday.

D Dean Curtis of Mid-Prairie Schools is among 16 Iowans appointed by Gov. Ray to the Vocational Education Advisory Council. The council administers federal funds and coordinates local programs. Curtis starts a three year term on Oct 1.
Princess Caroline of Monaco will marry French playboy Philippe Junot, announced by Prince Rainier and Grace Kellys palace. The engagement has been rumored for months and a June 1978 wedding is anticipated.
Secretary of State Cyrus Vance wrapped four days of talks in Peking with Chinese leaders without a concrete plan for full diplomatic ties. He described the discussions as candid and serious and noted both sides favor normalizing relations per the 1972 Shanghai Communique. Hua Kuo-feng expressed optimism that Sino U.S. relations will move forward as both sides seek progress.
Washington High School teachers Nina Metzner and Michael Kramme headline the Washington Community Theatre production of Wait Until Dark directed by Leon Hillman. Also starring Dennis Day Randy Mullikin Don Lawless Vicky Scott with show dates October 12 to 15.
