Morning Sun youth back in jail after jailbreak
Lester Gott twenty one of Morning Sun was captured in a corn field in Columbus City after a jail break and robbery attempt. He had escaped Washington county jail Tuesday while being questioned about burglaries and allegedly stole a pickup near Washington. Deputies from three counties and a state agent aided the arrest. He faces jailbreak and larceny of a motor vehicle charges and return to Washington County jail. Gott’s twin Chester along with Carrol Keck Larry Varvel and another man were in custody in a broader Southeast Iowa burglary roundup.

Donald Robison of Brighton displayed the longest barrow ever dressed out at the Ames Testing Station. The 32.1 inch carcass weighed 213 pounds with a 70.4 percent dressing and a loin eye of 4.68 square inches. The barrow was dressed at five months four days old.

Funeral set for Bert E. Booth Saturday
Funeral services for Bert E. Booth are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harold De Vries officiating. Burial will follow in Ainsworth Cemetery, under the direction of Jones Funeral Home. Booth died Wednesday August 22 1962 at Washington County Hospital after years of declining health. He was born May 18 1880 in Osborn County Kansas and married Brydie Henderson January 16 1907. He was a retired farmer and longtime resident of the area. Survivors include his wife one daughter-in-law Mrs. Mary Booth three grandchildren seven great grandchildren two sisters and two brothers. One son one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
