Secretary Henry A. Wallace said AAA programs are necessary to bolster farm prices and pledged continuation of wheat and corn hog initiatives. He spoke at a conference in Ames with AAA representatives and agricultural colleges from 12 Midwestern states.
The Strand Baking Co of Marshalltown sues Town Packing Co for 18 000 pounds of lard at 8 75 per hundredweight after delivering only 1 080 pounds and receiving payment. The suit filed in Des Moines district court alleges the packing company has failed to deliver the balance.
A well dressed stranger used a short change ruse at the Nash Finich store in Davenport to take $10 from a girl employee after buying a sack of onions. He confused the cashier and swapped money to gain the profit.
Four employees of the Iowa Liquor Control Commission face possible dismissal for alleged violations of rules against appearing in public intoxicated or frequenting beer parlors. The disclosures came at commission headquarters.
Bobby Ault and Alvin Peterson, both injured after claiming a hobo shot them in railroad yards, admitted they were wounded when they threw bullets into a bonfire.

Washington High School reports registration for the new year underway led by principal Miss Della Patton. 82 seniors registered yesterday with an expected senior class around 115. juniors were 38 at noon and more enroll today. Sophomore registration Monday and freshmen scheduling Tuesday. Last year’s enrollment neared 500.
At a special meeting the city council passed a resolution of necessity for 6.6 miles of Washington dirt streets to be surfaced with crushed rock and bituminous top. Bids open Sept 9, public hearing held with about a dozen objectors present.

Brighton announces a September 2 opening with morning sessions only. Registration for high school students runs Aug 26–30 at the high school. Students may choose Commercial, Normal Training, or General programs as faculty boast specialists in their fields and an active extras program including music drama public speaking and athletics.
Washington will be on radio next Monday evening on station WHO Des Moines starting at 7 30 PM. The repeat program follows demand after the prior broadcast party failed due to static with Richard McCleery leading the talk and Ralph Shannon absent. Music features include Pierce Knox xylophone performances Mrs T R Phillips piano duets and Maurice Mayo trombone solos with Mrs Phillips providing accompaniments in a half hour program.
