A Harding Highway delegation will urge the Iowa State Highway Commission to award contracts for 12 miles of paving from Mt. Lawrence B. Ashley, geologist and explorer, survived six days trapped in Nick-a-Jack cave near Cancer Knob Gulch Tennessee. He dug his way out with a trench shovel after his carbide lamp failed and credits hidden food and underground water for his life. He announced the discovery of a new cavern larger than Mammoth cave and said rescue efforts were aided by Governor Peay and mine rescue crews after a note left before entering.

J L Coffey of Chester Dies After Illness
Funeral services for J L Coffey prominent West Chester businessman will be held Tuesday at 2 PM in the West Chester Methodist church. Burial at Wellman cemetery follows a grave service by the West Chester Knights of Pythias. Coffey died Sunday at 12 55 AM after a year long illness from influenza complications. He leaves three sons and his wife who died in 1919. Coffey ran a lumber yard in West Chester and was formerly in the lampber business in Wellman Riverside. He was born in Indiana and moved to Wellman as a boy before relocating to West Chester.
