Nixon convention unity solidifies Nixon renomination
Republicans opened their 30th presidential convention with a strong show of support for President Nixon. The day saw internal debate on delegate strength and dissent limits, notably McCloskey's bid to seat a delegate being blocked. Ehrlichman criticized dissent control while Rockefeller urged proportional representation. The event contrasted with Democratic intraparty fights and included a small bloc of black delegates calling for chairmanship changes, which drew little turnout.
