Union Votes End Walkout Ends Airline Strike

Five major airlines resumed operations as 800 grounded planes were checked under CAB rules. The 43 day machinists strike ended with a 17 727 to 0 vote approving a three year 92 million package raising hourly pay and benefits. TWA faced a separate post settlement dispute.

Rights leaders may march into jail in Chicago

UPI reports King shows willingness to face jail rather than halt open housing marches. The plan calls for possible federal court appeals if necessary. Burlington man killed by tractor in Lee County

Marvin Lyons, 37, of Burlington, was killed when a tractor overturned two miles southwest of Burlington in Lee County. Lyons, occupied hauling posts from timber, was pinned under the machine during an uphill run and died of a crushed chest. He was president of Burlington Lithograph Co.

Iowa Senator Jack Miller charged federal civil service employees faced pressure to attend a Democratic fund raising dinner in Des Moines where President Johnson spoke. Campaign worker beaten and robbed in Davenport

Allen Schimmell, a campaign worker for former congressman Fred Schwengel, was beaten and robbed near Davenport by an unidentified youth who directed him to a stop and struck him with pliers before stealing $40. Schimmell reported to Schwengel's residence and then contacted police.

Barnyard wonders at the Iowa State Fair

At Des Moines the Iowa State Fair draws crowds to the children's barnyard where eggs hatch in a glass incubator and young visitors pet donkeys calves piglets and pups. Baby ducks swim in a tub while a milking cow rests nearby. For many city children it is a first close look at farm life and a memory to cherish.

Des Moines Protest over Fatal Police Shooting

About 70 demonstrators, mostly Black, marched to the Des Moines Police Station to demand a police review board and new firearm policies after Patrolman Charles Park shot and killed Dwight Green, 20, who fled a burglary scene. Police Captain Wendell Nichols said council action would be needed for change. The protest was peaceful, starting at Wilkie House and ending at the riverfront headquarters.

The forecast calls for continued mild and partly cloudy conditions. Scattered showers are expected to enter the state Sunday afternoon and evening, with otherwise light winds and gradual clearing afterward.

State Fair baby beef crowned at livestock pavilion

At the Iowa State Fair second day, 4-H youths showed top cattle in breed contests. John Hough won the Angus with a 92 pound steer shown by his brother, while George Brink exhibited the champion Hereford. Reserve champions appeared in Angus and Hereford, with other breed victors named in the Quality Beef Contest. A traffic jam at Grand Avenue entrance marred opening, later eased by directing cars to new gates.
