World traveler Lindenmeyer returns to Tampa campus

Lt. Col. John H. Lindenmeyer retired USAF and University of Tampa political science professor finishes a 29 day global swing in 25 000 miles. He visited San Francisco Honolulu Manila Saigon Bangkok New Delhi Pakistan and Saudi Arabia before a final stop in Madrid and back to Tampa for classes starting Sept 21. He observed the 1964 Republican convention and noted the orderly process and delegate seriousness.

Jerry Dean Patterson 24 of 603 North Marion Avenue died August 17 1964 at Washington County Hospital after illness since April He was born April 13 1940 in Washington County son of Milo and Eula LeFever Patterson He married Martha Cottrell May 29 1960 He last worked at Maplecrest in Kalona Survived by wife two sons Jerry Dean Jr and Eric Paul at home his parents Mr and Mrs Milo Patterson of Washington one sister Mrs Duane Disney of Ft Meyers Florida and the maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Lloyd LeFever of Washington.

Washington High to Issue Football Gear This Week

Washington High School coach Harold Stevens announced equipment pickup for varsity juniors and seniors tonight at 7 p.m. in the high school gym. Sophomore gear will be issued Tuesday at 7 p.m. Physicals for varsity and junior high players are set for Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the new high school gym.

Don Radda Wins Tall Corn at All-Iowa Fair

Don Radda of Washington claimed the tall corn title at Cedar Rapids with a 22 foot stalk, marking his second consecutive win at the All-Iowa Fair. The 22 foot stalk was the tallest ever exhibited at the fair this year.

Mrs. George Miller Sr. 70 of 320 West Main Street died Saturday August 15 1964 at University Hospital Iowa City. Funeral Tuesday 1:30 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home burial Elm Grove Cemetery memorial fund for the United Church of Christ. Survivors include five children and multiple siblings.

Albert B Swift died at 6 am Sunday August 16 in Minneapolis after more than a year of illness. A son of the late A B and Elizabeth Gugerty Swift, he was reared in Washington and married Elsie Houstman in 1922. Rusk Opens Democratic Platform Hearings With Warning

Secretary of State Dean Rusk opened the 1964 Democratic platform hearings warning against reckless deeds that could alarm allies and invite irrational retaliation from enemies. He urged a balance of pressure against communism with pursuit of peace and areas of agreement, signaling a stance different from the Republican platform. Stevenson and Foster were slated to testify, with McNamara to discuss security later.

Iowa Weekend Toll Hits 474 With 13 Dead in Crashes

A violent weekend on Iowa roads left 13 people dead and two more injured in earlier crashes. Names from Story City, Winterset, Emmetsburg, and Casper, Wyoming appear alongside locations including Clarion, Sioux City, and Belle Knob. The toll plus a fatal car train crash near Jesup marked one of the worst weekends on record.
