Jer ry Lee Free, 24, a prisoner from State Men's Reformatory, escaped from a work detail at Palisades Kepler State Park and fled into nearby countryside. He looted a shirt and water from Mrs Earl Russell, then left armed with a tree limb as deputies and state police searched areas near Mount Vernon.

Packwood Farmer Wins At All Iowa Fair
A. G. Mitchell of Packwood won 14 blue ribbons at the All Iowa Agriculture Horticulture Show in Cedar Rapids. He grew the tallest corn stalk at 15 feet 3 inches and earned additional firsts in grasses and grains. He also won three more firsts in the fruit and vegetable show with two bean varieties and white onions. One hundred participants entered the events as the Cedar Rapids fair continued through Sunday.

Brinning Services Set For Saturday
Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda M. Brinning, 81, Keota, will be at 3 30 p m Saturday at the Protestant Church with Rev Oren Potter officiating. She died Thursday morning in Washington County Hospital after illness spanning years. Burial will be in Keota Cemetery.

A young Illinois school teacher Mau rice H Howell was struck by a car while walking along Highway 218 about four miles north of Ainsworth. He was seriously injured and listed in very serious condition. Authorities said his stalled car prompted the walk to the Ainsworth junction for repairs.
