Robert Manry, solo transatlantic sailor, was sighted by the fishing trawler Treewarvenneth off the Scilly Isles, 42 miles southwest of the isles. The RAF confirmed a radio fix. Manry, aboard Tinker Belle, is in the home stretch toward Falmouth after leaving Falmouth, Massachusetts on June 1. The trawler skipper reported Manry has adequate food and is doing fine. United Press International reports a Perry youth died when his car struck a telephone pole on a rural road west of Berkley. The weekend toll reached 13 with a two car collision near Griswold killing six and injuring five. Fatalities included Micki Sue Robinson of Griswold, her family, and others in separate Iowa crashes on U.S. 20 near Dubuque and near Canton Missouri.

Missing Iowa horseman prompts large search
Charles LeRoy Anderson, 26, vanished Saturday after riding from a cousin’s Madrid area home to collect willows along the Des Moines River. Dallas County authorities led a search with 500 volunteers, including horseback riders, while divers scoured the river for signs of drowning. Anderson is married with two children and known as an expert horseman and trainer.
