Des Moines Aug 16 Iowa employment held steady last month in a bu yer bureau survey of 37 firms with total weekly payroll rising to 4 108 400. The gain over July last year reached 27 2 percent driven by wholesale and retail trade and textiles. Des Moines August 16 UP The Iowa crop and livestock reporting service released the first monthly estimate for 1946 showing commercial slaughter of 11,279,000 animals and farm slaughter of 640,000. Cattle 65,000. hogs 7,499,000. calves 421,000. sheep 1,944,000 were slaughtered commercially. Farm slaughter included cattle 72,000. hogs 338,000. lambs 5,000. December had peak commercial slaughter. September was lightest month.

Hudson Iowa August 16 fire destroyed the co operative creamery after an explosion of a fuel tank inside the one story brick building.
