Iowa Attorney General Pursues 21 Oil Price Fixing Firms
Des Moines Iowa Attorney General Richard Turner announced an active antitrust investigation into 21 major oil companies over liquid asphalt price fixing. He defended pursuing all anti-trust cases, noted 40 witnesses interviewed and 14 depositions taken, and said files from prior private attorneys were devoid of usable evidence. Head Start class begins this fall in Washington
A Head Start program for fifteen kindergarten entrants in 1968 starts this September in Washington. Funds come from the Southeast Iowa Community Action Organization. A teacher is hired and a building rented, with furniture and supplies needed for a 9 to 1 schedule and hot lunch. James R. Havercamp a 35 year old Betten dorf attorney was appointed by Gov Harold E Hughes as judge of Iowa 7th Judicial District. He will serve an initial term ending January 1 1969 and was chosen from two nominees submitted by the district nominating commission. The other candidate was John J Carlin of Davenport Havercamp was born in Cedar Rapids and later earned his law degree at the University of Iowa after Navy service.

Hippie Stole Test Pills In Haight Drug Alarm
Suspect known as Jeffrey A. Sacks, 22, denies poisoning claim after he allegedly stole Clinitest tablets from Haight Ashbury Medical Clinic. Pills contained copper sulphate and caustic soda intended for urine tests, not ingestion. Underground Press warned hippies to avoid taking pills from strangers. Two dozen pills unaccounted for. Police urged caution as Sacks was recaptured and later escaped from a hospital ward.

Park rangers shoot two grizzly bears
GLACIER NATIONAL PARK UPI Rangers resumed the search for two killer grizzlies that mauled and killed two 19 year old summer workers Julie Hegleson of Minnesota and Michelle Koons of California. Biologists found no human flesh in the stomachs of the two bears shot Monday. The killings marked the first time in 57 years the park saw such attacks. One survivor recounted Michelle Koons being dragged while friends hid in trees.
