The remaining assets of the closed Consolidated National Bank valued near 200000 were sold to George J. Schultz of Waterloo for 101. The items included bonds stocks notes unpaid stock assessments and related assets.
OsKaloosa says autopsy proved pneumonia caused the death of Clinton Reeves a 24 year old city laborer. The autopsy was performed after Reeves suffered a jaw fracture in a tavern brawl.
Elizabeth Dean, novelist of popular murder mysteries, will try her crime theories as a member of Pottawattamie county grand jury in September. Mrs. Dean, wife of a Council Bluffs oculist, says she has never been inside a courtroom.

An auto crash near Red Oak injuries five people including Mrs. J. B. Lewis of Milton Junction Wisconsin who fractured a collarbone and several ribs. Mrs. Lewis was passing another car when a frightened passenger grabbed the wheel causing the vehicle to overturn into a ditch. Five aboard sustained minor injuries.
Ottumwa witnesses two large funerals for Clara Wilson 26 mother of two and Marion C Murphy 28 found slain on the street. Police believe murder and suicide may be involved as investigation continues with hundreds in attendance.
In Des Moines the Maple Egg Corp workers voted 26 for C SO affiliation and 10 against under the direction of national labor relations officials. Frank McCarty announced the victory as a step to organize all egg candling and poultry plants in Iowa.

London reports that Dr Karl Burckhardt the League of Nations high commissioner for Danzig left for Berchtesgaden Germany Friday night after an invitation from the German government. Relief was voiced as he conferred with Adolf Hitler at the Reichs mountain villa and has now returned to Danzig. A city spokesman said he may discuss only Danzig in his official capacity.
A Bhalla family picnic was held yesterday at the Joe Te- Boeckhors home near Richmond. Guests from out of the county included Mr. and Mrs. Charney Cserny of Lone Tree and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Lemley and daughter of Davenport.

Washington believed to set a revised wage scale for WPA workers. The plan raises southern state pay and lowers northern and western rates as mandated by the 1940 relief appropriation act. Officials foresee protests possibly matching the recent 120 hour month strike and warnings of broad labor action.

The Washington junior college will receive NYA student aid again, with the allotment near last year’s. 24 of 42 students received NYA aid. Local funds and employment for 42 students last year supported tuition. Many returning students and new applicants are expected this fall, with Dean Mead urging early applications for qualification data.
Claren Miller and Everette Finke were in a car that ran off the road five miles north of town. Miller suffered a slight concussion shoulder injury and lacerations and was to be released from Washington county hospital tomorrow.
Two railroad crews raced to clear the Burlington tracks of debris from a freight train wreck near Rome. They sought to determine if anyone was killed as they approached the flat car with five transients aboard. One transient was believed buried in the wreckage with another possibly dead.
Iowa women entered the state fair crochet contest in large numbers with over 300 filings, as the event moved to a circus tent to seat more contestants. Secretary A R Corey noted entries arrive at about 70 daily. contestants will crochet for an hour and a half, with the longest completed strip earning the state title, Whampton.

At least four people died and a dozen were injured in Iowa over the weekend. Fatalities include Ralph Peterson 32 of Des Moines and William McMahill 72 of Wapello. A Burlington freight train wreck near Rome left five transients injured aboard a chlorine gas flat car.

Jacob Martin White known as J Martin White dies at his home 312 East Main Street after a seven day illness. He was a former barber of thirty years and a shrewd businessman who worked in real estate and property improvements. He and his wife lived on East Street and he had a long service history in the community. Interment will be at Elm Grove Cemetery with services at the Baptist chapel led by Rev I Fredmund.
