The 1976 Washington County bicentennial calendar will go on sale during municipal band concerts August 13 and 20 in Central Park and on Thursday nights August 14 and 21 in the Washington business district. It is also available at the Municipal Building and Extension Office. Priced at $1.25, profits support county bicentennial projects.

West Des Moines Considers 2.5M School Bond Issue
West Des Moines voters will decide next November on a 2.474 million bond for several construction projects including a new elementary school to serve 600 students. The board approved submitting the bond plan with final totals awaiting further district study.

Preliminary construction starts on a $7.5 million addition to Bankers Life home office in downtown Des Moines. The L shaped structure will rise north and west of the current building on land used as employee parking, forming a quadrangle around a central service area. Japan to Back U S Grain Purchases For Three Years
Japan will continue to buy 14 million tons or more of U S grains and soybeans annually for the next three years under an in principle agreement announced by Japanese Agriculture Minister Shintaro Abe and U S Agriculture Secretary Earl L Butz. The pact seeks to stabilize supply assurances and protect projected sales to Japan amid export controls.

Revelations to Perform Truth of Truths in Washington
Washington area residents can hear the contemporary rock opera Truth of Truths sung by a local choir Revelations directed by Robert Youngquist. Hearing Set in Gun Theft Case in Washington County
Preliminary hearings for Ted J. TeBockhorst and Dean M. Lintz are set for August 22 in Washington County Magistrate Court. They face felony charges of possession of stolen property tied to guns taken in a rural home burglary and were arrested July 18 in Crawfordsville. Lintz also faces possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver regarding marijuana and pills found after a July 11 crash. The investigation includes a recent warrant on another county residence. the owner of recovered goods is believed to be Ralph Graber.

EPA reports 3 year DDT ban reduced human and animal residues. Diet intake fell from 13.8 mg/day in 1970 to 1.88 mg/day in 1973. Fat residues dropped from 8 to 59 ppm.
