The Iowa war ballot commission approved a 19 by 12% inch ballot for soldiers and other service personnel to be used in the November 7 general election. It will be printed on lighter weight paper to meet government specifications.
Leonard Eckhoff, 47, of Charter Oak, drowned Thursday evening in Sunset Lake a former gravel pit in Denison. He swam then walked into deep water and went under despite efforts to rescue him by Ferris Obl 17 Dunlap. The body was recovered after an hour by lifeguard Howard McMinimee.

Isaiah Emerson Bush 77 died last night at his daughter Mrs John Patterson 727 North Marion Washington avenue after a 14 week illness. Born January 25 1867 in Johnson county Iowa he was a farmer who lived in Missouri before moving to Washington county in 1909. He is survived by his wife two daughters one son a brother three sisters and a number of relatives. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 30 a.m. at N A Jones funeral home with burial in Elm Grove cemetery.

Supreme Headquarters reports American troops captured 56 4723 German prisoners in France over four hours to midnight, swelling two day total to about 14 295. The roundup brings Bradley forces to around 5 000 prisoners since D day. Canadian and British troops eliminated a German agent near the Orne and Large rivers south of Caen, near Barbery 6 miles northeast of Thury Harcourt.
In a cross petition case involving Lloyd BE. Chaba, attorneys Swisher and Swisher of Jews City argued the matter. The court awarded custody of the minor Lloyd Ardei Cha to the petitioner and ordered monthly alimony until the child reaches adulthood.
