Clay county town faces another month of delay in deciding a water system proposal. An election proclamation was missing words and must run four more weeks. The bond issue totals 8840 dollars with a PWA grant of 7650 dollars approved.
Mrs Byron Seager of Franklin signed an agreement with the family to permanently relocate from Lee county. Byron Seager, previously jailed for intoxication, had a suspended sentence followed by a new 45 day term after re-arrest. The plan requires the family to depart Lee county with Seager released to accompany them.
Des Moines report shows a government August corn crop forecast nearly meeting the 58 cent loan target for AAA cooperators. July weather aided yields across Iowa and the corn belt, with total U S. production at about 2,566,221,000 bushels, potentially prompting a producers referendum on marketing quotas.
Des Moines Des Moines Fair officials outline women focused events at the state fair. Twelve county rural champion Farm Bureau choruses will compete in finals and twenty five county Farm Bureau units will participate in home project competitions with exhibits plays demonstrations and features in the home project auditorium during daily programs.
Mrs F A Williams 76 died at 2 15 this morning at her Brighton home after a sudden heart attack. She was born December 25 1861 and had lived in Brighton 20 to 35 years. Surviving: four sons, two daughters, a step son, and two sisters. Funeral arrangements pending word from children living far away.
After several days of extreme heat, temperatures cooled last night according to the weather forecast. Local readers note the change is welcome, with county 4-H members' livestock projects featuring calves and pigs praised amid the shift in conditions.
Raymond Bell of the Jackson 4-H club won the sweepstakes prize in swine at the annual 4-H club achievement fair for his Duroc Jersey purebred gilt. Marion Timmins took reserve in the division with his market litter. Sixty two pigs and ten head of sheep were exhibited, with numerous awards across Hampshire and Duroc Jersey classes.
Four cars were involved in a crash on primary highway No. 22 three miles west of Riverside. Ed Hotle and G H Feldman collided after a side swipe, pushing Hotle into J Figgins. W J Canning then hit Figgins from behind. Figgins suffered severe cuts requiring twenty stitches and his son was hurt. occupants of the Feldman car were uninjured.
Yesterday reached a high of 96 degrees and a low near 62 degrees. Skies were clear with dry conditions and light winds prevailing through the day and night.
Fred Downing of Washington was reappointed district adjutant for a second year at the state convention in Davenport. He also serves as grand worthy officer of the Forty and Eight and assisted as assistant sergeant at arms and on the nominating committee during the event. Washington county units participated in the parade, with notable turnout and support from Leon Beatty post.
A citizens group appointed last night at the YMCA will confer with the Washington board of education on the two new grade school buildings funded by a federal grant of 104 211. The August 24 vote and conference aims to clarify the proposal and gather voter support officials plan another meeting for recommendations and will hear input from Dr. Peterson of the State University of Iowa.

Massman Construction company of Kansas City won the contract for the North Second avenue underpass beneath the Rock Island and Milwaukee tracks at a bid of 159000 dollars. Foremen have been in town to arrange rooms for crews and expect the project to last eight months with R W Merritt Columbus Junction as the highway board engineer in charge.
In Hankow, Wuchang, and Hanyang a Japanese bombing blitz killed more than 600 civilians including five Chinese workers at Boone College. Sixty Japanese planes attacked the three industrial cities with dormitories at Wuchang destroyed and Boy Scout HQ hit. Chinese air units claim ten Japanese ships damaged.
Sixty tons of shredded clover hay are being removed from the Walter Bower farm a mile and a half south of West Chester to prevent a blaze. George Stout and neighbors haul hay into three trucks while the Walter Bower fire crew watches the smoldering hay and waters it to stop ignition. The operation, begun after July 4, involved a fire truck, a water wagon, and neighbors ready to supply water if needed. No real blaze occurred though the haymow remained at risk and all hay was reported destroyed or heavily damaged. Mr and Mrs John Shebeck and Mr and Mrs George Jarrard and Doyle attended the Burlington fair.
Germany's large four motor Condor plane left Berlin yesterday afternoon and landed at Floyd Bennett Field New York at 3 55 EST completing a 25 hours 20 minutes flight. The 3800 mile east to west Atlantic crossing was the longest point to point European flight and aimed to prove 24 hour Berlin to New York service.
John Conley aged 60 a veteran traveling salesman died at his Cedar Rapids home at 2 30 this morning after a long illness His body will be moved to Washington for burial in Elm Grove cemetery services time not yet announced He leaves his mother Mrs M D Conley a wife and one daughter living in Washington and was long with the Hibbard Spencer Bartlett company He was reared in Wayland.
The annual summer rally of Evangelical and Reformed Church youth from Os kaloosa Sigourney Valley and Washington will take place in Washington on Sunday. About 100 youths are expected for a 3 pm social, an 6 pm basket supper, and an evening program featuring motion pictures on mission work locally and abroad. The event invites the public to attend the evening program. no formal address is planned this year.
