Senator Lester Dickinson and Governor Clyde Herring were made honorary brothers of the Winnebago tribe during Council Bluffs centennial ceremonies. They received chiefs titles from Chief Konoco and John Painter in a public display of tribal honor.
A crash between a beer truck and a meat truck caused beer kegs to spill on the road. Bystanders collected the liquid using any container available, turning the incident into an impromptu giveaway.
Walter W. Wilson 23 prowled the George Jardee home in Oelwein. He awakened daughters Georgia and Marece, who screamed. Marceline Jardee bit his finger to stop the cries, holding on until Jardee restrained him for police.

Arthur Thorpe of Omaha was found after lying 12 hours in the bottom of an elevator shaft at a Cedar Rapids brewery. He suffered chest and back injuries and multiple lacerations before police transported him to a hospital.

Miss Julia T. Colpitts a long serving mathematics instructor at Iowa State College died in Southampton England after an operation. She taught at the college since 1900 and coauthored the collegiate textbook Analytic Geometry with Maria M. Roberts.
A letter written by Washington congressman Marion A Zioncheck hours before his suicide was received by Newton Chamber of Commerce president P J Jepson. Postmarked Seattle at 7 p m Friday it thanked Jepson for the invitation to speak and said Zioncheck could not say when he would travel through Iowa.
In Los Angeles the Mary Astor custody trial continued from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as attorney Roland Wooler sought to continue proceedings. Sensational excerpts from the so called lavender diary were revealed by Joseph Anderson, Thorpe’s attorney, in the bitter battle over their four year old daughter Marilyn.
About a dozen local boys aged 10 to 16 are in custody of Sheriff Harold M. Putnam for entering the late Col. C. J. Wilson’s East Washington Street home. They are accused of taking curios and damaging the residence while using Indian bows and arrows found inside. Officers Pollok Wallace and Blaine Holmes assist in recovering the property. the youths will face a judge for punishment while not jailed due to their ages.
Des Moines August 11 George Wilson republican candidate for governor urged mandatory use of Iowa coal in all state institutions during a speech before the Iowa state federation of labor. He linked tax relief to homestead exemptions and argued collective bargaining marks labor progress.
The Wapello County Fair at Eldon Iowa runs August 25 through 27 featuring auto races harness and running events thousands of exhibits a big midway day and night show 4 H club and live stock show. The Otumwa Municipal Union band will provide music throughout the fair.

George Schnoebelen a Riverside businessman died Saturday at Washington county hospital after a stomach ailment. He was 44, married Mary Heitzman in 1916 and had nine children Zelma Alvin Coletta Herbert Dorothy Delores Frances Vera Anita. He leaves a widow, parents, three siblings and two Milwaukee brothers. Funeral 9:30 at St Marys with Rev Jacobsmeier. burial Mt Olivet.
At the Dutch Creek fair committee meeting held in the church last night all fair plans were finalized. The Ladies Aid will run the supper on Thursday evening with hot plate lunches and refreshments available. The menu features fried chicken with gravy mashed potatoes noodles beans cottage cheese salad cake sherbet jelly butter bread and coffee.
The Handlings, Orrin and wife and their two year old son, were traveling from a northern town vacation when they stopped at Hillside tourist camp in Cedar Rapids. The baby died after a brief illness caused by ptomaine poisoning.

Topeka Kansas August 11 Governor Alf M Landon will discuss federal finances public education and government efficiency in three major speeches on his first political campaign trip to the east He will open with government economy and finances at West Middlesex Pennsylvania August 22 address education at Chautauqua New York August 24 and cover governmental efficiency at Buffalo August 26 The trip includes time in Estes Park Colorado to finish manuscripts and he will stay in the mountains until August 20
Ames August 11 three members of the north central regional staff of the Agricultural Conservation program meet with the state committee and Extension staff to plan checking 1936 compliance of cooperating Iowa farmers. The group includes Claude R. Wickard Joe J. Reed and Robert E. Straszheim. District training schools will be held in Sigourney Corning Storm Lake Clarion and Manchester with county schools for farm reporters who will measure crop land and classify land use. Farmers will apply for grants after 1936 performance is determined.
Robert McCready a 92 year old resident of Cherokee Iowa recalls voting for Lincoln and now plans to vote for Landon if he lives to see the election. He says he never owned a car but has a paid for wheelbarrow and has shifted toward the Republican candidate.
Northern Alabama police filled the streets after a bloodied night clash between white men and Black residents in a Negro quarter. Four whites injured and six Black residents wounded were reported. A kidnap suspect reportedly sought a two month old infant belonging to Hugh L Williams and his wife of Lloyd Chapel. The mother said a Black man tried to take the baby, and she struck him with a hammer prompting the child's release.
Vienna reports Alfonso of Spain dodged around Austria fearing a communist demonstration. He left Vienna today for Ling and is believed to be en route to Lake Wörthersee.
The man arrived as a young husband and joined his ex-team in Postville Iowa before settling in Diamond township near Cherokee. MT PLEASANT August 11 INS A 250000 fire at the state hospital for the insane injured no one though ten inmates escaped and six story tower collapsed. About 6000 volunteers helped herd patients to safety and to other wards while state officials estimated 300000 to 400000 needed to rebuild.
Miss Clara Wallace supervisor of normal training schools in Town receives a year leave. Florence Preba from Eagle Grove, formerly a Creston Junior College instructor, will replace her. Wallace plans advanced study in education at the University of Iowa for the year.
