Bert Menning an Akron Iowa farmer was bound over to the grand jury on charges of trying to extort 5000 from Mrs Oliver Harriman a wealthy New York society woman Menning who was arrested by the federal department of justice waived preliminary hearing when arraigned before U S commissioner J W Hubbard His bond was set at 2500 He claimed to extort after publicity about Mrs Harrimans lottery losses.
UPI dispatch depicts U S diplomats in Paris walking long miles from embassy to lodging after midnight as Paris transit shuts down. Secretary Hull notes revolutions and tourism strain staff while taxicabs overcharge, leaving diplomats to pay or walk. Comptroller Elliott shows no government aid.

The funeral of John Waymack who died Sunday in Oskaloosa was held yesterday at 2:30 PM at L. A. Jones funeral home. Rev. Carl W. Klein of St. Paul's Evangelical church conducted the services and burial followed in Elm Grove cemetery. Pallbearers were Ted Dalton Remps Hampsher Rodney Arnold George Ward Charles Dennison and H. M. Shelbarger.

A band of 30 armed Arabs surprised a British corporal and three soldiers bathing in a pool near Jerusalem. The corporal was killed and the others were wounded. Authorities feared the attack could trigger a grave disaster.
