The 1969 Census of Agriculture reports Washington county with 1 441 farms, up from 1 Of the county total, 1484 1 are listed as selling at least 2 500 in agricultural products. Average farm size is 235.8 acres and average farm value is 96 380. Total farm sales reach 40 466 211, up from 28 449 500 in 1964, with crops at 9 076 854 and livestock and products at 31 381 963. For the first time corporate farming structures are shown, with 7 of 2 500‑and‑over farms incorporated.

Twenty youths arrested after Oelwein disturbance
About 20 youths were taken into custody in Oelwein after a second straight night of disturbances in the northeast Iowa community. Authorities said a crowd of about 200 to 400 youths roamed downtown, windows were broken, rocks and Molotov cocktails were thrown, and several piles of rubbish were set alight before fire crews intervened. Six youths were arrested and a highway patrolman was slightly injured during clashes with officers following raids on two beer parties. Wedding rings and a watch were reported stolen from a jewelry store Saturday night.

Climbers die after fall on Mount Hood tragedy
An experienced climber Marty B. Carson about 42 and his 12 year old son Clifton died after a 1,000 foot fall on Eliot Glacier during descent from Mount Hood. Wife Joanne 34 and other son Harry Jr. 13 were rescued. Clifton was confirmed dead and Harry Jr. hospitalized in satisfactory condition. Harry Jr. said his brother slipped, dragging their family down.

Apollo 15 crew back home after lunar mission in Houston
