A massive turnout for the Centennial parade and pageant drew estimates from 20 000 to 30 000 on Tuesday with far larger crowds anticipated for Thursday’s closing events. No serious incidents reported as spectators packed streets, while prizes for pets and historical entries were announced and entertainment lined the square.
The log east-side building on the square houses a Washington antiques exhibit drawing about 100 visitors at a time. By delay of closing, total attendance reportedly reached 1,600 with ten cent admission. After the Centennial, bids will be sought for sale of the structure, with proceeds funding Central Park fountain.

A 350 cast presented Washington history to 2600 spectators in Case Field last evening. The two hour pageant opened with Miss Washington crowned by J. C. Penney and included a Washington state drill, prologue, and dances depicting early inhabitants and the arrival of white settlers with narration by R. E. Shannon and remarks from Mayor Lloyd Lytle. The Washington concert band and Centennial chorus provided musical background.
The 4-H achievement show draws Farm Bureau members as the livestock exhibit and girls department products center the interest. Judging at Eclipse Lumber yard and Methodist church began yesterday and runs through today with Alvin Lueder as clerk. A Hereford won grand champion in baby beef. awards announced by C W McDonald include blues and ribbons for several exhibitors.
Five entries competed in a pulling contest at the Nor’ end of the lot near the new Linin School. Teams over 2900 pounds saw Charles Shetler take first with Vern Anderson second and Wes Custerward. Prize money totaled 15, 10 and 5 dollars. Judges were Ralph Waggoner Oscar Davis and Spencer Reed.
In Burgos on August, Generalissimo Francisco Franco restructured the government and proclaimed himself dictator. A decree widened cabinet portfolios while the office of the premier, held by Jose Antonio Giron, was abolished and Franco assumed the premiership.
Mrs L H Wallace of Jews City visits as guest during the Centennial of Mrs M P Miller, sharing in the milestone observance with friends and family.
Contestants in the Sunbonnet Club event must report to the west end of Case field near the goal post before 7 45. The contest starts promptly at 7 45 with instructions for entrants. Enter through the main entrance gate.
Washington celebrated its first Centennial parade yesterday afternoon lasting over an hour and ten minutes. The procession included 1,400 Whisker and Sunbonnet Club members, Indians, pioneer equipage, ox teams, and decorated floats. State highway patrol aided traffic while Mayor Lloyd Lytle and notable figures rode in a car. Troop F of the 118th Cavalry, American Legion, and school bands joined the procession.
