A scientific search for Perseid meteors is underway at Mt Pleasant as Earth enters the meteor field. Observers expect up to one falling star every two minutes after midnight and Dr Poulter of Mt Pleasant now with Bryd at Little America will compare notes with Iowa City data on each meteor.
Sd Trusty, a former hotel chef from Fairfield, was arraigned before Judge Daugerty in Ottumwa district court on Tuesday and sentenced to seven years in the Fort Madison penitentiary after pleading guilty to issuing two false checks.
The Ottumwa temperature reached 114 degrees at 1 o clock, obliterating all previous Iowa heat records. Washington fans register shock as the official reading tops prior marks in extreme warmth.
A prisoner labeled trusty at Ft Madison penitentiary escaped Sunday night and remains at large. George Quinlan, 65, was sentenced four years ago for chicken stealing and had 14 months left to serve, while working as a painter outside the yard.

The rite celebrated fiftieth and twenty fifth anniversaries and vows. Key clergy included Bishop RR H Rohlmann Davenport and subdeacon Rev. Math ry Hauber Davenport.
An airplane dropped from the sky at Creston yesterday and unloaded a man in pants and pajamas and a dog. They had missed their train in Omaha and flown to Creston where they caught up with it. The wife from the platform remarked you would do such a thing.
WR Luckfield district foreman for Great Lakes Pipeline Inc says water will be pumped from Kansas City reservoirs to Osceola via the company system, with a likely start on Wednesday.

The first district conference of Republican leaders meets Monday at 2 PM in the Y M C A Washington. County chairmen and vice chairmen will attend along with Young Republican leaders to plan campaign efforts under Sanforg Zeigler. About 50 attendees expected from Des Moines Lee Van Buren Henry Jefferson Louisa Washington Muscatine Iowa Johnson and Cedar.
Glen Carris, a June graduate of Washington high school, will receive the Legion Auxiliary junior college scholarship for two years. The award is half tuition for each of two years and was announced by Dean Harland Mead. Charlotte Squire won the previous year’s scholarship and will pursue nurse training at Burlington.
Washington county 4 H club fair judges praised girls and boys exhibits as Eleanor Augustine and Rosalie Combs won top girls prizes and Robert Flynn led the market pig winners. The event showcased strong livestock entries and quality youth demonstrations with ties noted in several awards.
Eleanor Augustine and Rosa lie Combs won first in the demonstration contest with Around the Clock in Cotton. Selected by Mrs. Harold Ellis as best of nine at the Methodist church social hall, the team advances to the state fair with leader Miss Isa belle Combs Rosalie’s sister. Tie for second among the remaining presentations.
The 1934 Washington County 4-H show tops local events with a parade starting at 11, a picnic at Sunset Park, and a 1:30 concert at Central Park. Lloyd Walker leads the boys club, Mrs. Clayde Knapp heads the girls division, and Murl McDonald gives the day’s address after awards are announced.

H and A Baking announces a new product Butereg Bread with rights secured to produce and sell. EB Long assists in initial steps while Port Smith Arkansas visitors assess production. The firm adds new equipment including a 2400 loaves per hour wrapping machine and an automatic divider.
Dentists of Washington County hold their annual picnic and golf outing at the Washington Country Club today. The group plans an afternoon golf round and a clubhouse picnic dinner in the evening with families invited. The usual serious dental meeting program will be omitted.
London reports Leonard Reid and J. R. Ayling hold up non-stop flyer effort halted in England on August 9. The two aviators faced obstacles and delayed services amid weather and regulatory issues affecting the planned nonstop flight lineup.
Harry Cassel 62 formerly of Washington died at his farm home two miles east of Ainsworth after years of illness. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 10 AM at L. A. Jones funeral home with Rev. F L C. Witzigman officiating. Burial in Almaworth. Survived by wife Carrie Carson Cassel of Ainsworth, mother Nellie Cassel of Lewiston IL, daughter Mrs Don Wood of Washington, brothers Fred of Peoria, Leslie and Omer of Lewiston, and sister Mrs Verdy Vearee of Lewiston.
Ralph Lemley son of Mrs. Evaleene Lemley earns a growing reputation as a practical aircraft builder. He designs constructs and merchandises over fifty miniature airships, many sold through East End Grocery operated by his mother and grandmother. He currently has six or seven under construction with only one left unsold.
Mrs Manton Hebner arrived home last night after a trip to Chicago. The return signals a personal visit and possible local social engagements.
A non-stop flight from Canada to Bagdad landed at a field near here today, interrupting their project. Officials reported the diversion was brief and services resumed shortly after the arrival.

Prices run 6.70 a ton delivered to court house jail and county yard, 6.14 a ton not delivered to the county home, and 6 a ton to the county poor. Estimated annual usage mirrors last year’s split across locations.
Arthur Edmondson a 25 year old button cutter from Washington was bound over on charges of wife desertion in Fairfield. He posted 500 bond to send 15 dollars monthly for his wife's support as long as the marriage lasts. Edmondson was brought to Fairfield by Sheriff Lane T Stansbery and released after the hearing before Justice Clyde Bell.
